Wahoowa!

It's officially the holiday season. Can you feel it? If you've been out holiday shopping, you have. For those still out shopping or traveling for the holidays, please be careful in your journeys. Traffic accidents are common this time of year with everyone hurrying to fulfill their holiday shopping needs, so be mindful of other drivers and pedestrians.

If you'd rather stay inside and shop from the safety of your home, there's still time to place orders through TheSabreShop.com and have items delivered before December 25th. We've got several shipping options to insure your gift makes it to its destination on time. Please scroll down for more information on TheSabreShop.com.

Happy Holidays to all!

   Recruiting News

This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Virginia again had a successful official visit weekend despite not receiving any verbal commitments (yet) from those who visited. New Brunswick (NJ) wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett reportedly had a terrific visit. Jarrett is one of the top targets on the board and his decision will likely come down to Southern California and UVA, with UVA looking better and better.

LB Jerod Mayo listed the Cavs as his front-runner following his visit. Virginia likes the Kecoughtan High School (VA) star as an outside linebacker. LB Clint Sintim enjoyed his time as well. Clint will make officials to Virginia Tech and maybe Maryland before deciding. Other recruits on hand last weekend included Ahmad Bradshaw, Marquise Liverpool, Carlos Feliciano, Phil Trautwein, and Hubbard (Chicago, IL) safety Nate Lyles. UVA may be the favorite to land Bradshaw and Liverpool (who both may decide soon), and now appear heavily in the mix for Trautwein and Lyles.

A surprise visitor was Dudley (NC) defensive tackle and everybody's All-American DeMario Pressley. Pressley enjoyed his time in Charlottesville, however he will likely choose between UNC, Florida State, and NC State when decision time comes.

All in all, last weekend was a successful one despite not having immediate results. With the prospects UVA is targeting, most of them want to make all visits before announcing their decision. This weekend, as well as the next few weeks, may be very quiet in terms of recruiting. Some players will be visiting schools this weekend, while the rest will wait until January to make more trips. Look for the action to intensify once again at the start of the New Year, but don't be surprised if a couple of players commit either.

UVa breaks bowl game ticket sales record

The UVa ticket office announced this week that Continental Tire Bowl ticket sales have surpassed any previous UVa bowl tickets sales in the past. That includes all 13 previous bowl contests. UVa has sold over 22,000 tickets through their office since the announcement was made, and they are getting credit for at least 2,500 other tickets sales purchased by UVa fans through other venues. These numbers blow away the previous ticket sales totals of 18,500 for last year's Tire Bowl and the 1998 Peach Bowl.

If you have not yet purchased your bowl tickets, please contact the UVa ticket office today. The UVa ticket office phone numbers are 800-542-8821 and (434) 924-8821. Prices are $27.50 to $67.50 per seat, depending on location.

For information regarding the bowl game, please refer to TheSabre.com's Tire Bowl Game News page, linked below. Closer to the start of the contest, we will load this page with weather information, stats, depth chart, roster card and full media notes as well as tons of pre-game articles. Stay tuned.

    Men's Hoops survives JMU

The UVa men's basketball team remained undefeated by defeating JMU this week, 90-80. The Hoos took a commanding 29-point lead, and held a lead of more than 20 points through the better part of the second half, but JMU caught fire and made a run late in the game to close the gap to ten. Four Cavaliers scored in double figures, including Todd Billet, who dropped in a team-high 20 points. Billet also grabbed six boards and dished out three assists. Center Elton Brown contributed 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds. While Derrick Byars was held to just eight points, he helped the team greatly in other areas, getting three steals, four rebounds and an assist, with no turnovers. See the link below for post game stats and news articles.

Virginia Basketball back in action tonight

UVa men's hoops will play Loyola-Marymount at 10:00 PM tonight in Los Angeles, California. This will be the first real road test for the young Cavaliers. A win would put them at 7-0 for the season before they travel back to Charlottesville to play Coastal Carolina on December 22 (7:30 PM, No TV).

Tonight's contest will not be televised, but you can pick up the broadcast locally on AM 1070 WINA, or by going to VirginiaSports.com and selecting the live Internet broadcast link.
