News, Rumors and Fan Discussion | |||||
20,000 tickets sold to Tire Bowl by UVa ticket office thus far As of Thursday night, UVa had sold close to 20,000 tickets through their ticket office in Charlottesville for the Continental Tire Bowl. Of course, that number does not include the thousands of tickets sold to UVa fans through other agencies. Thus far, more tickets have been sold to Cavalier fans than for last year's Tire Bowl meeting with West Virginia. This makes the second straight year that UVa fans have 'traveled well' to bowl games. While the proximity of Charlotte to most UVa supporters has something to do with this, some credit should be giving to Coach Al Groh and the UVa team for building a positive fan atmosphere the last couple of seasons. For information regarding the bowl game, please refer to our Tire Bowl Game News page, linked below. Closer to the start of the contest, we will load this page with weather information, stats, depth chart, roster card and full media notes as well as tons of pre-game articles. Stay tuned.

Men's Hoops defeats VMI UVa defeated VMI last Friday night, 78-56. The Hoos extend their record to 5-0 with the win. Elton Brown and Derrick Byars led the charge for UVa with 14 points apiece. Donte Minter assisted in the effort with 13 points in just 18 minutes. Brown led the team with 13 rebounds, 5 on the offensive end. For stats and post game articles, please click the link below.
Virginia Basketball back in action next week The UVa men's hoops team will play James Madison University on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:30 PM in University Hall. The game will not be televised. Please check the link below for future games. Media Notes for each game will be posted a day or two before the event.
UVa Soccer's Matt Oliver named to All-American Team UVa's Matt Oliver was named to the College Soccer News 2003 All American Team this week. Oliver was placed on the third team. This is the second year in a row that Oliver has made the All-American team.
Chuck Noe dies at age 79 Charles W. "Chuck" Noe, a 1946 graduate of the University of Virginia who went on to a successful coaching and broadcasting career, died in Richmond, Va., on Monday (Dec. 8). He was 79. Noe, a native of Louisville, Ky., played both basketball and baseball at Virginia, earning All-State honors three times in both sports. After graduation, he signed with the Boston Red Sox organization in baseball and the Baltimore Bullets in basketball. His playing career ended as a result of a severely dislocated ankle he suffered while playing baseball in 1948. After coaching at Madison County and Hopewell High Schools, Noe coached basketball at VMI, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Virginia Commonwealth University, where he also served as athletics director.
After leaving coaching, he went on to a successful broadcasting career at WRVA Radio in Richmond. Noe hosted the Cavalier Call-In Shows in football and men's basketball for 14 years.
