This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

This week in recruiting is a brief list of the players who are expected to make visits to the University of Virginia this weekend. Here's the list...

Official Visitors.

Andrew Bowman
6-1, 230
Inside Linebacker
Hermitage High School (Richmond, VA)

Bowman has made an official visit to Tennessee and will make officials to Purdue (12/06) and VT (12/13/03) as well. He will decide after making at least those four visits.

Ahmad Bradshaw
5-10, 180 pounds
Athlete
Graham High School (Bluefield, VA)

Ahmad, who recently received a qualifying SAT score, has offers from Virginia and West Virginia. He may set up an official to WVU after this weekend, however I would not be surprised if a decision comes soon.

Tristan Davis
5-11, 188 pounds
Athlete
Tri-Cities High School (East Point, GA)

Tristan will make all five official visits before announcing his decision. Florida is the only other school he knows he will visit. Auburn, Maryland, UNC, and Wisconsin are currently in the mix for the final remaining visits. This will be Tristan's first-ever visit to UVA.

Eric Dennis
6-5, 345 pounds
Offensive Lineman
Southwest Dekalb (Decatur, GA)

Dennis is reportedly favoring Virginia heading into this weekend's visit, and could commit. He is also looking at LSU, Auburn, and Middle Tennessee State.

Doug Dutch
6-1, 190 pounds
Wide Receiver
Gonzaga (Washington, DC)

Dutch is one of Virginia's top targets this year, as he is a game-breaking wide receiver prospect. This is his first official visit. He will also make official visits to Miami, Michigan, Florida, and Pittsburgh. Maryland is under consideration as well, however they are receiving an unofficial visit because they are so close to his home. Look for Doug to make all of his visits before deciding.

Trimaine Goddard
5-11, 180 pounds
Athlete
Roanoke High School (Robersonville, NC)

Goddard is being recruited as an athlete with cornerback being his likely destination. He favors UVA and UNC, with Florida State and Tennessee being considered as well. He has set official visits to all four.

Dwayne Hendricks
6-4, 255 pounds
Defensive End
Millville High School (NJ)

Virginia has done a great job getting back into the mix with one of the East's top defensive end prospects. Hendricks has made official visits to Michigan and Iowa thus far, with Iowa being his favorite visit between the two. Dwayne goes to Miami (FL) on January 17th for an official visit. ND, Tennessee, and Florida are vying for the final visit.

Mario Urrutia
6-6 ½, 218 pounds
Wide Receiver
Fern Creek High School (Louisville, KY)

One of the biggest wide receiver prospects in the country, Mario has scheduled officials to UVA this weekend, Louisville next weekend, and Kentucky on December 13th. An early commitment to Kentucky, Urrutia has since re-opened his commitment and plans to make at least these three visits before announcing. This will be his first ever visit to UVA.

Unofficial Visitors.

Andre Brown (possibility)
6-1, 215 pounds
Running Back
JH Rose High School (Greenville, NC)

UVA leads NC State and Nebraska for Brown, who has yet to make his official visits to either the Pack or the Huskers. This will likely come down to UVA and NCSU. Whether or not Andre makes it to the game tomorrow will be a last minute decision.

Kenneth Harris
6-4, 190 pounds
Wide Receiver
Cherryville High School (NC)

One of the truly up-and-coming receiver prospects, Harris has unofficially visited Georgia and NC State within the past two weeks. UVA will be his third unofficial, and this will be his first trip ever to Charlottesville.

Jerod Mayo
6-2, 215 pounds
Outside Linebacker
Kecoughtan High School (Hampton, VA)

Mayo likes UVA slightly over VT right now, in what will likely come down to an in-state battle for his services. He has official visits set to both over the next two months.

DeMario Pressley
6-4, 290 pounds
Defensive Tackle
Dudley High School (Greensboro, NC)

DeMario is one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the country. He is not 100% sure he will make the trip, but indicated he will probably be there. He has set official visits to UNC and NC State, with Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Oklahoma, Miami, and others trying to get the three final spots.

Clint Sintim
6-3, 240 pounds
Outside Linebacker/Defensive End
Gar-Field High School (Woodbridge, VA)

Clint likes UVA, VT, Maryland, Ohio State, and Tennessee right now. He only has one official scheduled thus far - to UVA on December 13th - but wants to take all five visits.

Phil Trautwein
6-7, 300 pounds
Offensive Tackle
Eastern Regional High School (Voorhees, NJ)

Phil is considering UVA, VT, Rutgers, and Maryland for his final two official visits. This visit may help him decide whether or not to use one on UVA. This will be his first visit to Virginia.

Other visit possibilities: OLB/DE Dan Davis - Plainfield HS (NJ), S Kent Hicks - Culpeper High School (VA)

The Virginia football team defeated Georgia Tech last Saturday at Scott Stadium, 29-17. The win gives the Hoos their sixth of the year and makes them eligible for post-season play. Placekicker Connor Hughes and tight end Heath Miller were named ACC Players of the Week for their efforts. Hughes tied a school record hitting on all five of his field goal attempts. Miller caught six passes for a career-high 110 yards. Miller, only a sophomore, has caught 53 passes this year, setting the record for most passes caught by a tight end in a single season. Bowl game?

Rumors had surfaced about the Hoos possibly going to the Tangerine Bowl, but it's now apparent that they will either head back to the Continental Tire Bowl in Charlotte, NC or out to Boise, Idaho for the Humanitarian Bowl. It has been suggested that the Hoos may go to Charlotte if Miami defeats Pitt. For more information on the bowl situation, please see our Sabre Newslink below.

    Virginia to face Virginia Tech

Virginia will host Virginia Tech in their annual rivalry this Saturday at 1:00 PM in Scott Stadium. The battle for the Commonwealth Cup will be on the line. The Hokies have maintained possession of the Cup for four straight years. Currently, the Hokies stand at 8-3 and 21st in the nation according to the Associated Press. At one point, Virginia Tech was ranked as high as 3rd in the nation after defeated 2nd-ranked Miami. If the Cavaliers can manage the upset, VT could fall out of the polls - a scenario very similar to what happened to Virginia in 1990, when they fell from the nation's top spot completely out of the polls at the end of the season with a 38-13 loss to VT in Blacksburg.

For information on the Virginia Tech game, including a preview, weather report, parking info, articles, radio broadcast info, depth chart, roster card and media notes, please see the link below.
