This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Cavs Add Center
The big news this week is on the hard court.

Coach Gillen reeled in another solid prospect earlier this week, gaining a commitment from 6-11, 210 pound center Tunji Soroye (pronounced Sher - ray). Soroye plays for Montrose Christian School in Maryland. He joins point guard Sean Singletary and wing Adrian Joseph as commitments for the 2004 class, however he will not sign until the Spring.

Urrutia Ready for Visit
Fern Creek's (Louisville, KY) BIG receiver Mario Urrutia will make an official visit to UVA on November 29th. He visits Louisville on Dec 6th and Kentucky on Dec 13th. He may take all five, or he may just decide following the first three visits.

Dutch Ready for Visits
Gonzaga (DC) wide receiver Doug Dutch is excited about his visit to UVA in two weeks. He will also make official visits to Miami, Michigan, Florida, and Pitt. Maryland will receive an unofficial visit on December 19th. These visits will play a big part in Doug's decision.

RB Brown Down to Four
Andre Brown lists UVA as his top school, however will visit Miami, NCSU, and Nebraska before deciding. Look for this to come down to UVA and NCSU in the end.

Trautwein Comments on Visit
Phil Trautwein, a massive OL prospect from Eastern Regional HS in Voorhees, NJ, hopes to make an unofficial to Virginia for the VT game. He has been on official visits to BC and Michigan State, and will go to Tennessee on November 22nd if his team is eliminated from the playoffs. UVA, VT, and Rutgers are vying for the final two official visits.

Lomax Helps Lovejoy to Great Season
Virginia and Georgia are looking strong right now for Jeremy Lomax, a defensive end from Lovejoy HS in Lovejoy, GA. Lomax made an official visit to UVA on October 18th and will visit UGA, TN, NC State, and possibly Louisville as well before deciding.

DeMario Pressley Videos
DeMario Pressley videos have been added to his recruiting card. Check out why he is the top defensive tackle prospect in the country!

Jerod Mayo Sets Final Visit
Mayo has set official visits to NC State, Virginia, Purdue, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. Virginia and Virginia Tech appear to be the frontrunners right now, with the slight edge going to the Cavs.

Pressley to Narrow List Soon
The nation's top DT prospect, DeMario Pressley will narrow his list to five soon after his season is over. UVA is in serious contention to receive one of his five official visits. Look for FSU and UNC to get at least two of those spots.

Virginia drops fourth straight ACC contest

Maryland's backup tailback, Josh Allen, was too much for the Cavalier defense to handle last night, as he rushed for a career-high 257 yards with two touchdowns in Maryland's 27-17 win. Virginia's defense played poorly in the first half, missing several tackles and allowing the Terrapin offense to jump out to a 24-7 halftime lead. The second half saw the Hoos get back into the game and cut the lead to seven, but the defense again failed to hold and allowed Maryland to drive down the field and secure the win with a late-game field goal.

Virginia's defense continues to struggle, having given up over 1,000 total yards and 87 points to their past two opponents. With Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech as the final two opponents, the Hoos are going to have to perform much better if they hope to win either game and make themselves eligible for a bowl this season.

    Hoos have the weekend off

Virginia will have off this Saturday while they prepare for a home contest with Georgia Tech on November 22nd. Game time and television will not be announced until Monday, with indications that either ABC or Jefferson-Pilot will pick up the game. It has been suggested that ABC would be a 3:30 contest and JP Sports a noon contest. With the loss to Maryland last night, there's a good probability that ABC will pick up the N.C. State vs. Maryland contest next weekend, especially if the Pack can pull off an upset over ACC leader Florida State. If the Pack were to defeat FSU, it would put N.C. State, Maryland and FSU in a three-way tie for first in the conference. A Pack win over the Terrapins at that point would provide them with at least a share of the ACC Championship with Florida State.

UVa Hoops soundly defeat the Big Apple All-Stars

Wahoo fans got a look at the new and improved Virginia men's basketball team Tuesday evening, as the Cavaliers defeated the Big Apple All-Stars 104-80. Sophomore forward Derrick Byars led all Cavalier scorers with 25 points on an amazing 10 for 11 shooting night. Byars also grabbed five rebounds and dished three assists.

Other highlights of the game were junior forward Devin Smith (7 of 11 with 20 points), senior guard Todd Billet (5 of 8 from 3-point range with 21 points and five assists) and freshman center Donte Minter, who drilled a perfect 7 for 7 from the field, hit his only free throw and snagged six rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.

Fans also saw the new and improved Elton Brown. Brown struggled a bit offensively against Big Apple's seven-foot center Ned Rolsma, but showed quickness, better defense and the ability to pass the ball out to open shooters.

Fifth year senior Majestic Mapp played the sixth most minutes of the Cavalier players, and showed that he had made big strides since last season in terms of his confidence, conditioning and speed. Shortly after entering the contest, Mapp dished out four assists and provided the team with excellent defense. He finished the contest with six assists, no turnovers, two steals and a blocked shot in 19 minutes of play. The jury is still out on whether or not Mapp is completely healthy and can sustain that level of play throughout an entire ACC season. Only time will tell. For recaps and the box score, please see the link below.

Sabre Edge subscribers and Internet Explorer

Some subscribers who use Microsoft's Internet Explorer have had periodic problems accessing Sabre Edge. The reasons for Internet Explorer's defects are not certain, and the problems seem to range through most of their browser versions, especially IE 5.0. We want you to know that there are other options for you. You do not have to stick with Microsoft IE. Many of the programmers and systems administrators around the planet simply do not use this browser (and they are reluctant to use most any of Microsoft's products), but unfortunately it seems to be the browser of choice since it comes automatically loaded on your computer at the time of purchase.

We'd like to suggest a couple options for those who are simply fed up with the problems, glitches and other weird happenings with IE. With the two browsers listed below, no one has complained to us about access problems with Sabre Edge, unless they were work related (i.e. strong firewalls with additional security measures preventing the allowance of cookies on your system).

If you are having access problems with Sabre Edge, try one of these capable browsers. I'd suggest Firebird above Netscape since the file is smaller and Netscape has been known to have other problems or glitches (but not with our site). Also, Mozilla's Firebird is very similar to Internet Explorer, but with far fewer problems.

      Mozilla's Firebird

Click the link below. On the left hand side of the page, look for Mozilla Firebird 0.7. Of the three bullet points, choose the appropriate operating system for your computer. If you don't know what you have, then you are probably using Windows. Once you click this link, you can save or open the file and start the download process.

    • Mozilla Firebird

      Netscape 7.1 Navigator

Like Mozilla and Internet Explorer, Netscape has been around for many years and is the usual alternative to Internet Explorer. While there are some small bugs with this program, there aren't many known problems associated with this browser and access any of our store or subscriber areas. Depending on what format you download, Netscape could be a very large program to download. If you are not logged in on a high speed connection, I would recommend waiting until late at night before downloading.

    • Netscape Navigator

As always, we want to know if you are having any problems with Sabre Edge, whether it be accessing the log in area, navigating the subscriber area or anything. Please email us and let us know if you are having problems and we will work with you to get you access and make your subscription an enjoyable experience. Also, feel free to email us if you have suggestions or comment on the service. We love hearing from you.
