This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

What a week for UVA, as the Cavaliers rolled in three verbal commitments from their big weekend. Tom Santi, Jamaal Jackson, and Chris Gould are the new members of the 2004 recruiting class.

Cavs Get Top Tight End
One of the top tight ends in the country, Montgomery Bell Academy (TN) star Tom Santi committed to Virginia over Iowa, Tennessee, and LSU among others. Santi, who had many scholarship offers on the table, is a 6-5, 220 pounds and runs a 4.55 in the 40.

WR/DB Jackson Excited About Choice
Virginia received a commitment from WR/DB Jamaal Jackson of Deep Creek High School (Chesapeake, VA). Jackson is 6-3, 200 pounds and will likely play safety for the Cavaliers. He was recruited as an "athlete," meaning he projects at a number of different positions.

Top PK Commits to UVA
Central Mountain High School (Lock Haven, PA) place kicker/punter Chris Gould (pronounced Gold) became the third player this week to commitment to Virginia. Gould, whose brother Robbie is a junior place kicker for Penn State, had scholarship offers from Virginia, Ohio State, and Pittsburgh. He has booted field goals of 53 and 54 yards this season, and has averaged 38 yards per punt.

Deptford's Green Has Favorite
Deptford (NJ) FB/LB Mike Green lists Virginia Tech as his favorite school. Minnesota, Indiana, Miami (FL), Virginia, and Maryland are also under consideration. Green has yet to set up any visits and will do so after his senior season. He has offers from all favorites except for Miami and Virginia.

Alabama Prep Star Visits UVA
Briarwood Christian (Birmingham, AL) cornerback Simeon Castille discussed his official visit to UVA last weekend. Castille, who has received scholarship offers from Alabama, LSU, and Louisville, had a great visit. Simeon's brother (Tim) is a freshman fullback for Alabama. His father, Jeremiah, played for the Tide from 1979-1982.

Hicks Discusses First Visit
Culpeper (VA) safety Kent Hicks enjoyed his official visit to Virginia last weekend. He may take an official visit to Virginia Tech next weekend for the Miami game. Hicks noted that playing time may be the final factor that helps him decide between UVA, VT, MD, BC, and TN.

Lomax Enjoys UVA Visit
A new name on UVA's radar is Lovejoy (GA) defensive end Jeremy Lomax. Lomax made an official visit to UVA last weekend. He is being recruited as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme. The 6-5, 220 pound Lovejoy star had a great visit to UVA but will make the rest of his officials before deciding. Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisville will receive officials.

Abbott Decides
Westlake (GA) offensive lineman Courtney Abbott chose Florida State over Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, and LSU. Following an excellent official visit to Virginia, Abbott acknowledged he was close to choosing the Cavaliers. After speaking with his family, he decided to stay closer to home and chose the 'Noles.

Highland Springs Building Great Program
A feature on one of Central Virginia's top high school football teams. Scott Burton is developing an excellent program, both on and off the field, in just five years as head coach. UVA and Virginia Tech have offered junior tailback/cornerback Victor "Macho" Harris.

Top Target: Dwayne Jarrett
A top target profile on 6-5, 200 pound Dwayne Jarrett of New Brunswick HS in New Jersey. Jarrett is one of the top wide receiver recruits in the country. He has taken an official visit to Iowa and will make the rest of his official visits - Southern California on Nov 22nd, Pitt on Nov 29th, Syracuse on December 5th, and UVA on December 12th - before making his decision.

Jarrett, who visited UVA last weekend unofficially, says the Cavs have the edge over Iowa and USC.

Trautwein Talks Recruiting
Mammoth 6-7, 300 pound OL prospect Phil Trautwein of Eastern Regional High School (Voorhees, NJ), says Michigan State is his favorite over Boston College, Iowa, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Rutgers, and Maryland. He has taken an official visit to Michigan State and has set up trips to BC (Nov 7th) and Iowa (Dec 12th). He may take an unofficial visit UVA for the Georgia Tech game on November 22nd.

Sintim Discusses Five Favorites
Clint Sintim names UVA, Virginia Tech, and Maryland as his top three but says he will visit Tennessee and Ohio State as well. He'll take all five visits before making a decision. Sintim is a 6-3, 247 pound DE prospect from Gar-Field HS in Woodbridge, VA. Sintim also discussed an unofficial visit to UVA last weekend for the FSU game. Like many other prospects, he enjoyed the atmosphere.

Difference Making Visit for Davis
Plainfield (NJ) defensive end Dan Davis had an excellent time during an unofficial visit to UVA last weekend. UVA is his leader right now and has set the standard for all of his remaining visits. Davis hopes to take official visits to UVA, Nebraska, Georgia, Maryland, and Rutgers.

Davis' teammate, junior OL Eugene Monroe, also enjoyed his time in C-Ville last weekend. Monroe is a 6-6, 320 pound prospect who figures to be one of the most highly recruited players in New Jersey next year. He has already received an offer from Virginia.

Hermitage Linebacker Likes Three
Hard-hitting linebacker Andrew Bowman likes Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee right now over Purdue and North Carolina. He wants to make all five official visits. He has scheduled officials to UVA on November 29th and Virginia Tech on December 12th.

Liverpool Comments on Visit
Marquise Liverpool, a WR/DB from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, commented on his visit to UVA last weekend. He had a good time and lists the Cavs as one of his favorites along with BC (UVA and BC rumored to be at the top), Southern California, Tennessee, and Rutgers.

Bradshaw Keeping Options Open
Talented Graham (Bluefield, VA) running back/defensive back Ahmad Bradshaw enjoyed his unofficial visit to UVA for the FSU game. He has scholarship offers from Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, and is considering Virginia Tech and Tennessee as well. He will make an official visit to Virginia on November 29th.

Did Bullock Decide?
Northern Durham (NC) linebacker Chase Bullock did not commit to Virginia last weekend as expected. Unable to make the trip for the FSU game, he decided to open up his recruitment and now wants to make official visits before deciding. UVA, Maryland, Wake Forest, and South Carolina are some of the schools in the mix for the talented 6-3, 225 pound 'backer.

Virginia plays toe to toe with FSU

Virginia lost a close one to seventh-ranked Florida State last Saturday, but could not finish the job, losing to the Noles 19-14. The Cavaliers appeared to have the game under control and were driving late in the game, but an errant shotgun snap caused the Cavaliers to punt with just over six minutes remaining. Virginia would never see the ball again as the Noles used a controlled running game to milk the clock and preserve the win.

While the Hoos aren't happy with a close loss to a top ten team, fans should take note that the team is improving and that there are good things to come from this group.

The Hoos fall to 3-2 in the ACC and 4-3 overall, but look to get back on track this weekend when they face Troy State at home. For more information on the FSU game, including stats and post-game articles, please refer to the link below.

    Next up, Troy State

The Cavalier football team will look to break their two-game losing streak this Saturday when they face the Troy State Trojans. Troy State looked to be one of those easy-to-beat teams before the year began, but they've made a little noise this season and are a formidable opponent. The Trojans played 14th-ranked Nebraska tough for a half, holding the Cornhuskers to just 3 points through more than 28 minutes of play. But Nebraska took control of the game and eventually finished off Troy State, 30-0.

The highlight of the Trojans season came when they upset Marshall, 33-24, a month ago. But, there are those that will tell you that Marshall may have overlooked Troy State while still celebrating their 27-20 victory over sixth-ranked Kansas State the week prior.

No matter what, you can be sure the Hoos will take all of this in consideration and not overlook the Trojans. It's a home game in Scott Stadium, and the Hoos are coming off tough losses to Clemson and Florida State. Virginia will be hungry for a win, and after their positive performance against the Seminoles last week, are looking to light it up in the stats category.

Game time is 3:00 PM. The game is not televised. For pre-game articles, cumulative team stats, depth chart, weather info, radio info and other news related to the game, please see the link below.
