Wahoowa!

This is game week and it seems as if this time would never get here. Virginia football suits up for their home opener tomorrow and will face the improving Duke Blue Devils. Game time is at 7:00 PM. Get there early and support the team as they take the first step toward an ACC Championship season.

Just so you know, TheSabreShop.com will be setting up for every home game at the corner of Alderman Road and Ivy Road. Tom will be on hand to offer up some great game day attire, like hats, shirts, ponchos and more. Feel free to stop by and check us out or just say 'hello'. We're right on the way from U-Hall to Scott Stadium, so if you're walking that route, you can't miss us. See you there!

And if you don't have the means to get to our 'sidewalk store' location, feel free to check out the many items we have to choose from in TheSabreShop.com. You won't be able to get your order before the Duke game, but you can get stocked up for the rest of the season.

See you at Scott Stadium!

   Recruiting News

This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

The big news of the week was the transfer of touted quarterback Chris Olsen from Notre Dame to Virginia. Olsen, who earned first-team all-state honors his senior year at Wayne Hills HS in Wayne, NJ, chose Virginia over Boston College, NC State, and Maryland among others. He will sit out this season and compete for the starting position in the fall of 2004.

Towards the end of last week, Cavalier fans received good news when Philip Brown reaffirmed his commitment to Virginia. Brown, an All-American cornerback out of Phoebus High School, signed with the Cavaliers in February of 2003. He appears focused and eager to arrive at Virginia in the fall of 2004 following one year at Hargrave Military Academy.

The Cavaliers will get an official visit from Jack Britt (NC) running back George Bell. Bell, who would have been one of the top running backs in the nation if it were not for a devastating knee injury his junior year, has scheduled a visit to Michigan for September 6. Virginia was scheduled for September 27, however that will need to be rescheduled. NC State leads with Virginia Tech close behind.

I caught up with Dudley (NC) standout defensive tackle DeMario Pressley for a question and answer session. Pressley is wide open at this point and hopes to narrow things down sometime over the next few months.

Lakewood (NJ) tailback Dwayne Jones has fans talking with his 6-1, 230 pound stature coupled with his 4.4 speed in the 40. Jones lists Virginia, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse as his top four. Syracuse, along with BC, Nebraska, and Rutgers have extended official offers.

One of the state's best, Robinson (Fairfax) LB/DE Olu Hall, is open to anyone but likes Virginia Tech and Virginia at this point. Hall is a versatile player who is athletic enough to play linebacker but plays defensive end very well.

Westfield (Chantilly, VA) WR Eddie Royal remains wide open. He will not visit any schools this weekend, but mentioned he will trip to Blacksburg for the November 1st contest versus Miami (FL). Virginia has not offered and may be dropped from his list if they do not do so soon.

My new Top 30 will be released on Friday. There will be quite a shake up in the rankings, as I was able to view and study more and more film following my first release. Also, I will post film on Culpeper S Kent Hicks, who will be rated in the top five in the state.

Virginia is coming off a surprising 9-5 season and returns 17 starters from a young, improving team. Duke returns most all of their starters from a 2-10 season. While their record wasn't good, they did give a few teams fits throughout the season. Virginia was one of those teams that just barely escaped.

Alternative Parking for UVa Football games
Official UVa Media Relations Report

Fans attending home football games at the University of Virginia this fall might find parking more difficult in the University Hall area due to construction of the John Paul Jones Arena. The new Ivy/Emmet parking facility will help the situation if it is available as expected after the first four home games. Other parking options are available for all six home games.
