Recruiting News | |||||
This Week In Recruiting By Chris Horne The big news of the week was the commitment of Jon Kirchner to Coach Groh and company. Kirchner, a 6-5, 260 pound defensive line prospect from Rockbridge High School in Rockbridge, Virginia, chose the Cavaliers over Virginia Tech, Stanford, Maryland, West Virginia, and Duke. He received scholarship offers from all of those schools. Kirchner will play defensive end in the 3-4 defense. He comments on his commitment in an article on Sabre Edge. Virginia extended a scholarship offer to Plainfield (NJ) defensive end Dan Davis. Davis listed the Cavaliers as one of his favorites. He has also received offers from Nebraska and Rutgers. Virginia is recruiting him to play the OLB/DE position. Gar-Field defensive end prospect Clint Sintim took an unofficial visit to Virginia late last month. He has visited Maryland and Virginia, who are among the nine schools to officially offer one of the summer's fastest rising prospects. Like Davis above, Virginia likes Sintim as an OLB/DE type. Orange, California prospect Anthony Vernaglia is listing Virginia among his top two schools. Notre Dame is the other, and he hopes to make a decision within the next few weeks. Check for an Edge update on the talented WR/LB prospect early next week. Check out the many Edge Updates from earlier this week following the Adidas ABCD Camp. Top targets for the basketball program include 6-9 PF/C Cornelio Guibunda, 6-8 PF/WF Adrian Joseph, 6-8 Combo Forward James Mays, and 6-7 WF Alex Galindo. More updates to come over the next few days. Edge subscribers can now view video footage of Westfield duo QB Sean Glennon and WR Eddie Royal. Two of the top prospects in the state show their stuff in these exciting video clips. We have posted clips on Kecoughtan LB Jerod Mayo as well. Other News for the Week. Brandon Ore, following a visit to Virginia Tech for camp, received an official offer from the Hokies. He lists Virginia Tech as his favorite right now. Virginia has extended a verbal offer to the running back from Indian River (Chesapeake, VA). Quarterback target Joe Bauserman committed to Ohio State. He had attended UVA's summer camp.
