This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Almost two weeks ago, the Cavaliers secured the third commitment of the 2004 class from Providence (Charlotte, NC) running back Andrew Pearman. Pearman, who is the younger brother of current Cavalier running back Alvin Pearman, spoke to the Sabre earlier this week, so be sure to check out his Q&A session. He talks about his commitment, the future of the Virginia program, and gives his thoughts on expansion.

Last week the Cavaliers held their two summer camp sessions. News has been pretty quiet since, however we need to track down many more prospects. The next several weeks will be dedicated to interviewing players who attended UVa's camp and getting their responses.

One player who impressed the Cavalier coaches greatly was Gonzaga (Washington, DC) wide receiver Doug Dutch. Dutch, who is a speed burner, demonstrated he has the technique to go along with his physical skills. According to Dutch, the Virginia coaches were so impressed that they indicated he could play early. Virginia also made his top five list, and may likely receive an official visit.

The top player in the state of Arkansas, Pulaski Academy (Little Rock) middle linebacker Matt Stoltz (6-3, 235) will likely officially visit UVa as well. The Cavaliers, led by recruiting coach Al Golden, are heavily interested in Stoltz and have made his top five list. Check out our recent Top Target feature for more on the talented middle linebacker who has drawn offers from Tennessee, North Carolina, Nebraska, LSU, Arkansas, and others in addition to Virginia.

Roanoke (NC) corner Trimaine Goddard likes the Cavaliers as well, and lists them in his top five. He has already visited the Cavaliers for a junior day in the spring and came away very impressed. Goddard is an agile and tough cornerback prospect who has received offers from Virginia, Florida State, and Georgia among others.

Next week, in addition to providing more updates from UVa's camp, we will cover the ABCD Adidas basketball camp in New Jersey. Look for a complete wrap-up of the event next weekend.

This week ...

Miami and VT official to ACC

ACC officials made an announcement this week that it had accepted Miami and Virginia Tech as the 10th and 11th teams of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The two new member schools were recognized at a function in Greensboro, N.C. earlier this week. Now the ACC may be looking to find a 12th team to round out the league. Currently, the NCAA requires a minimum of twelve teams in a conference in order to hold a conference championship game.
