News, Rumors and Fan Discussion | |||||
This week ... ACC Expansion News The hot topic the past two weeks has been ACC expansion news. It appears that the ACC is going to expand to twelve teams. Many believe that it will be Miami, Syracuse and Boston College, but Virginia Tech is doing their best to slide into Syracuse's spot. There's been a lot of interference in the process by Virginia Tech and Virginia Governor Mark Warner. Also, UVa's President Casteen has taken a stand in support of Virginia Tech and only time will tell if this is just a political move for both parties. The real question is, will it make any difference? Former Athletic Director Terry Holland was quoted in the Roanoke Times this week stating that he felt Virginia Tech would not be invited into the ACC. To read the reports, please see Sabre Newslink and look for ACC Expansion News in the headers. You can't miss it ;) Derrick Byars invited to participate with U.S. National Team Freshman hoopster Derrick Byars has been chosen to try out for the U.S. National Basketball Team in Colorado Springs. Byars is one of 51 players chosen to participate in the trials. Lacrosse team destroys Mount St. Mary's in first round of tourney The men's lacrosse team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament last weekend when they defeated Mount St. Mary's, 19-8, at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville. Click here for the full report. Virginia will face Georgetown this Sunday in Towson, Maryland at 3:00 PM. For more information about tickets to the game, please see the full report. Women's lacrosse team advances in tourney The UVa women's lacrosse team defeated Georgetown last weekend, 16-9. They advance to the semifinals to meet Maryland tonight at 8:30 PM in Syracuse, NY. Click here for full report. Rainy days for UVa baseball
The UVa baseball team got off to a great start this season, but they've fallen off a bit here lately. The Hoos have dropped their last five contests, including a three game series with #17 Georgia Tech and one with #25 VCU this past week. The Hoos hope to get back on the winning track when they face UNC this weekend before heading into the ACC Tournament starting on the 21st. UVa travels to UNC to play a double header today (3:00 PM and 7:00 PM) and another game on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
