Bannister Signs Report by Chris Horne One day after the Virginia basketball program loses one guard, another becomes officially a part of the Cavalier program. 5-10, 165 pound point guard TJ Bannister of Arlington Country Day (FL) signed his National Letter-of-Intent with the Cavaliers today, and becomes the third member of the 2002-2003 recruiting class. Virginia is also expected to sign Fork Union power forward Donte Minter, who committed to the Cavaliers three weeks ago. Bannister hopes to be part of the solution to the Cavaliers' problems against the press, as he can use his exceptional quickness and ball handling ability to break down opposing defenses. According to Arlington coach Rex Morgan, Bannister is "un-pressable.a true lead guard with great ball handling ability." Bannister has played against the country's best, and hopes his big-time experience will help him in Charlottesville. "I look forward to playing in the ACC," said Bannister. "I've always wanted to play against the best, and the ACC has the best competition."
Bannister is rated the #26 point guard prospect in the country by Rivals.com, and is a three-star prospect by Insiders.com. He averaged 21 points per game this season for Arlington Country Day.

Yours truly, along with much of TheSabre.com staff, will be there as well. We look forward to seeing you there. Baseball endures busy week The UVa baseball team had some ups and downs this week. First, they hosted #12 Miami and lost the first two of the three-game series before routing the Hurricanes in game three, 17-2. The Hoos also knocked off Old Dominion 8-3 before falling to Virginia Tech on the road, 5-3. The losses to Miami mark the first home losses of the year. The loss to the Hokies was the only loss to an unranked team this season. Virginia will host #14 N.C. State in a three-game series starting today. Tonight's contest begins at 7:00 PM. Saturday's and Sunday's games are both at 1:00 PM. Friday and Sunday, WINA will air the contests on 1070AM. Saturday's contest will be televised. Check your local listings for more information. For more info on the series with N.C. State, see full report. UVa Lacrosse to play ACC Tournament opener tonight #4 Virginia will take on #12 North Carolina tonight at 8:30 PM at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville for the 2003 ACC Lacrosse Tournament. The Hoos are the third seed in the tourney. UVa is 7-2 on the season (2-1 in conference) and UNC is 5-5 (2-1). The Cavaliers defeated the Tar Heels on April 5th, 10-7. The winner will face the winner of Maryland and Duke. That game begins at 6:00 PM tonight. For more information, including ticket prices, please see the full report. Three UVa lacrosse players named All-ACC Chris Rotelli, Tillman Johnson and John Christmas have all been named to this year's 11-man All-ACC squad. All three were named All-ACC last year as well. For more information, please see the full report. Women's Lacrosse has four players named All-ACC Lauren Aumiller, Lauri Kenis, Tiffany Schummer and Amy Appelt were all named to this year's Women's Lacrosse All-ACC team. Aumiller led the nation in scoring with 65 points. For more information, please see the full report. Stewart named Men's Tennis ACC Rookie of the Year Freshman Doug Stewart was named ACC Rookie Tennis Player of the Year this week. He was also named to the All-ACC team. Stewart was 21-4 in singles play and led UVa to 20-7 record this season. Stewart is only the second player to win Rookie of the Year award for UVa. Cavalier standout Brian Vahaly was the other in 1998. Click here for the full report. Harper to transfer Sophomore guard Jermaine Harper has elected to transfer from UVa to the College of Charleston. Harper received his release from UVa this week. Rumors have been flying on why Harper may be leaving, but most sources indicate that it's most likely a playing time issue. With the inclusion of new prospects T.J. Bannister and J.R Reynolds next season, Harper would have not seen as much playing time as he would have liked. The switch to the College of Charleston is understandable, since new C of C Head Coach Tommy Herrion was the primary recruiter for Harper while he was assistant coach at UVa.
You can read more on Harper's transfer by reading articles linked from the Sabre Newslink page.
