UVa Begins 2004 Recruiting The Virginia Cavalier coaches have been hard on the recruiting trail yet again, evaluating prospects for the 2004 class. Though it is early in the evaluation period, the staff has verbally offered a number of prospects. Dudley (NC) High School trio defensive tackle Demario Pressley, running back Jamaal Edwards, and safety Martel Thatch have received offers. Thatch has been to Charlottesville, and "really enjoyed the trip," according to Dudley head coach Victor Floyd. All three players are wide open at this point, according to coach Floyd. Other out-of-state prospects receiving early verbal offers include Park View (GA) running back Brad Lester, JH Rose (NC) running back Andre Brown, Conestoga Valley (PA) athlete Jordan Steffy, Gonzaga (DC) athlete Doug Dutch, and Millville (NJ) defensive lineman Dwayne Hendricks. Hendricks hopes to take an unofficial visit to UVa in late April.
Culpeper County safety Kent Hicks and Kecoughtan linebacker Jerod Mayo are the only in-state players to receive verbal offers.

This week ... Just one more open football practice for the spring Wahoo fans, April 6th is your last chance to catch spring football practice. There was a rumor that practices would be open to the public for some additional days next week, but after speaking with a representative from UVa Media Relations yesterday, we've been informed that there will be only one more spring practice open to the public prior to UVa football's spring football game and festival. Note the following dates and times:
Sunday, April 6 (2:15 p.m.) - Practice open to the public.
Saturday, April 19 - Spring football game and festival. Lacrosse loses second in a row, will take on UNC this weekend Virginia lacrosse dropped its second straight game in as many weeks, this one to conference foe Maryland. The Hoos will try to get back to their winning ways this Saturday when they face North Carolina at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville. The game is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth 18 and under and seniors over 60. Football 101 for women The following is a notice from the Central VA Chapter of The National Football Foundation. "Football 101 for Women" returns to Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium on Saturday, April 5, 2003. Anne Groh, wife of Virginia football head coach Al Groh, will be hosting the event along with Margaret Littlepage, wife of Virginia's Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage. "We want all women in our community to be able to enjoy the success of the University of Virginia football program," Anne Groh explained, hoping to build upon the success of last year's program. "Understanding the basics of football undoubtedly will increase enthusiasm for the game." For $30.00, women of all ages will have the opportunity to learn more about offense, defense, penalties and official's signals, as well as how football affects the lives of coaches and players on and off of the field. "Football 101 for Women" will begin at 10 a.m. in the Alumni Room (second floor) of Bryant Hall at the south end of Scott Stadium and will run until 3 pm. Lunch will be provided. The proceeds from this event will fund scholarships to be awarded at the NFF banquet.
