Potomac Standout to Walk-on Eric Rosenthal, a 6-5, 270 pound offensive/defensive line prospect from The Potomac School in McLean, Virginia, plans to walk-on to the Virginia football team this fall. Rosenthal, who played offensive tackle, did not give up one sack his entire senior year. According to Potomac head coach Ed Foster, the young prospect has a chance to succeed on the next level. "He's a good offensive lineman," said Foster. "He has good feet and athletic ability. What he needs to work on is his strength. And at 6-5, 270, he is only 17 years old, and has plenty of room to grow."
UVa has shown interest in several other Potomac prospects for next season, including safety Mike Fisher and 6-5, 220 pound quarterback Brett Locey. Fisher is a two-time all-state safety while Locey, who was out all of last season with a torn ACL, has "an unbelievable arm and is a great leader," according to Foster. Locey has fully recovered from his injury.

This week ... Hoos drop two more contests, losing streak at seven The Hoos continued their slide this week, dropping two more contests. Virginia lost on the road to Florida State, 73-59 and at home against Georgia Tech, 90-73. That makes seven straight losses for the Hoos. Wow! In a down year for the ACC, and with a host of talented ball players, who would have conceived that this team would fall so squarely on their faces at the end of the season? There's only one more regular season game, and that's a home contest with 12th-ranked Maryland. If the Hoos can't pull off a win, they will finish the regular season with a losing record. So, when was the last time UVa lost eight straight basketball games? The year was 1999 and it was the final season under former head coach Jeff Jones. It's no strange coincidence then that Coach Pete Gillen is under a lot of pressure from fans and alumni to get the job done or get out of town. But it is likely that Gillen will get at least one more year to try and turn this around. But why on earth is UVa trying to 'turn things around'? Isn't this the first year that Coach Gillen has his and only his recruits to use on the floor? It's a stumper for sure that Gillen cannot get it done with his own troops. Gillen had more success his first year while using just six of Jeff Jones' scholarship players and a host of walk-ons. For news on all Cavalier games, please see UVa Basketball Schedule. Next up for the Hoos? Virginia will try to end their regular season with a victory this Sunday when they suit up against Maryland. The game is scheduled for 8:00 PM and will be televised by the Fox Sports Network. UVa lacrosse defeats Syracuse! Virginia's John Christmas scored the winning goal with just 22 seconds remaining to help his Hoos defeat top-ranked Syracuse last weekend. The Hoos defeated the Orangemen 16-15 to remain undefeated. Christmas earned National Player of the Week honors for his performance. Virginia is now the number one-ranked lacrosse team in America. The Hoos will travel to 5th-ranked Princeton this Saturday for a 1:00 PM contest. Click here for more information on the game. Keith Jenifer leaving men's basketball program Keith Jenifer is leaving the University of Virginia and transferring to another college. Jenifer requested and was granted a release from the men's basketball program. Click here for more details. Football 101 for women Charlottesville, VA- "Football 101 for Women" returns to Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium on Saturday, April 5, 2003. Anne Groh, wife of Virginia football head coach Al Groh, will be hosting the event along with Margaret Littlepage, wife of Virginia Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage. "We want all women in our community to be able to enjoy the success of the University of Virginia football program," Anne Groh explained, hoping to build upon the success of last year's program. "Understanding the basics of football undoubtedly will increase enthusiasm for the game." For $30.00, women of all ages will have the opportunity to learn more about offense, defense, penalties and official's signals, as well as how football affects the lives of coaches and players on and off of the field. "Football 101 for Women" will begin at 10 a.m. in the Alumni Room (second floor) of Bryant Hall at the south end of Scott Stadium and will run until 3 pm. Lunch will be provided.
