This week in Virginia recruiting

Virginia hosted several big time high school football athletes last weekend. Our recruiting analyst, Chris Horne, caught up with several of them as well as a few others who went on visits elsewhere. Here's a brief summary of the week's Sabre Edge recruiting updates.

Philip Brown enjoys visit

Brown committed to the Cavaliers January 15th, a few days before he made his official visit. After his visit, nothing has changed in Brown's mind about the Cavaliers. Brown loves the school and what it has to offer.

"Man, I had a ball," said Brown. "They showed me a real good time down there. It was everything I expected it to be. I was really comfortable with the atmosphere. I'm a Cavalier. That's the place where I feel I will maximize my potential."

Brown, a 5-11, 185-pound athlete is considered by many to be the best prospect in the state of Virginia.

Jesse Holley to make decision soon

Jesse Holley, a 6-4, 190-pound athlete from Roselle, NJ visited North Carolina last weekend. Holley is considering Virginia and North Carolina as two of his top choices, and may make a decision very soon.

"It's going to be between Virginia and North Carolina," said Holley. "Right now, I'm in deliberation. I'm just talking with my family about what's best for me. Hopefully I can decide by next Monday."

Holley is one of the top athletes in the state of New Jersey and is ranked four stars by Rivals.com.

Chris Ellis takes more visits

Chris Ellis, one of the top five players in Virginia, has finished his visits to Maryland, Virginia and Tennessee. The 6-5, 230-pound defensive end enjoyed all of this visits, but none more than his visit to Virginia this past weekend. Ellis still has two remaining visits, one to Virginia Tech this weekend and one to N.C. State the following weekend. It will likely come down to UVa and VT for Ellis.

Dias takes visit, gets visited

Jermaine Dias, a 6-2, 215-poound linebacker from Hackensack, NJ is one of those players at the very top of UVa's dream list this season. Dias visited UVa this past weekend and liked what he saw. The star linebacker will likely come down to UNC and UVa when all is said and done, but his decision probably won't be made until closer to signing day.

Still, the Cavaliers are in good shape with Dias, and the efforts of the UVa coaching staff are not going unnoticed. Just two days after Dias' official visit to UVa, five UVa coaches took a trip to New Jersey to visit with Dias. Hackensack coach Ralph Dass was impressed with the UVa coaches, and thinks that Dias will end up at Virginia.

"If I had to say right now, I would guess that Jermaine ends up at Virginia," said Coach Dass. "That's what I got from what he told me. He's still going to visit Boston College out of respect, but unless they wow him, I think he's going to Virginia."

Anastasio enjoys visit to UVa

Chase Anastasio visited UVa this past weekend. Anastasio, a 6-2, 190-pound athlete, is ranked as one of the top five players in the state of Virginia. He's being recruited hard by Virginia, Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Notre Dame, just to name a few.

Virginia's made good ground with Anastasio, but Chase wants to wait until his visits are complete before making a decision. Anastasio will conclude his recruiting visits with a trip to Blacksburg this weekend. A decision should be made soon after, according to his father Mike. Mike Anastasio stated that the trip to UVa went well last weekend.

"The visit was good," said Mr. Anastasio. "He enjoyed being at UVa and had a good time. He enjoys the coaches, and he got to spend a lot of time with the players. It's a beautiful school. There were no negatives from the trip."
