Virginia gets commitment from wide receiver The Virginia program received its 14th commitment of 2002-2003 recruiting season last Sunday, when Ragsdale (NC) WR/DB Emmanuel Byers verbal led to coach Groh and company. This week ... UVa Football captures second place in ACC Virginia earned a share of second place in the ACC when the crushed defending ACC Champ Maryland last Saturday. The Cavs cruised to an impressive 48-13 win. Matt Schaub continued to impress, throwing for three touchdowns and 249 yards on 23 of 27 attempts. The effort, along with his dramatic improvement throughout the season, earned him ACC Player of the Year honors. The win gives Virginia an 8-4 record on the season (5-3 ACC). Virginia will try to improve its regular season record tomorrow when they face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. For more on Virginia's win over the Terps, please see Maryland Game News and Notes. Virginia Football to play Virginia Tech tomorrow The Cavaliers travel to Blacksburg for their annual meeting with the rival Hokies tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Virginia will try to improve its record to 9-4, and secure a place in the Peach Bowl ahead of Maryland. The game will be televised by ESPN. If you cannot view the game, tune in to WINA (AM 1070) or WWWV (FM 97.5) if you're local to Charlottesville or the surrounding areas. Virginia Basketball falls short in Maui The Cavaliers advanced to the final of the Maui Invitational by defeating Chaminade and then 16th ranked Kentucky, but fell just short of winning the championship when the lost to #20 Indiana Wednesday night. Up next for the Cavaliers is a road trip to Michigan State on December 4th at 9:00 p.m. For more on the games, please refer to the Schedule and News page. QB Matt Schaub takes home two All-ACC awards Matt Schaub was recently awarded Offensive Player of the Year in the ACC and the ACC's overall Player of the Year, well-deserved accomplishments for a player who was greatly under appreciated by many UVa fans at the beginning of the season. Schaub is the ACC's leading passer and has set eight single-season school records. He leads the ACC with 26 touchdown passes and a 69.7 completion percentage. His 2,751 yards passing and 2,813 yards of total offense are school records. |
