Brooks Thriving At Hargrave
Report by Chris Horne

Ahmad Brooks hasn't taken very long to adjust to military life at Hargrave. In fact, he is doing just fine. Through five games this season, Brooks has racked up 47 tackles, scored two defensive touchdowns, blocked a punt, and intercepted two passes. His performance has been more than impressive, according to Hargrave Military Head Coach Robert Prunty.

"Ahmad is having a great year," said Prunty, who also coaches linebackers for the Hargrave defense. "He has adapted to what we are doing here. Everyone that has come by or seen film on Ahmad feels he is playing better and harder than last year.

"He has become a more aggressive player."

Prunty, an excellent coach who will no doubt coach in the collegiate ranks very soon, has helped instill a more aggressive and fiery attitude into Brooks. It is this attitude that has enabled Brooks to become an even better prospect than when he was at CD Hylton.

"When I first saw film on Ahmad from last year, it looked like he was going only about 60% of what he had," said Prunty, whose defense is yielding only 7.1 points per game. "I am an aggressive coach. Now he is going 100% all the time, and people notice it. Let's put it this way.he has the linebacker mentality now."

Brooks' new aggressive play only enhances his already impressive physical traits. He is a solid 6-4, 240 pounds and has improved his speed since arriving at Hargrave. According to coach Prunty, there have been several occasions when Ahmad has run from one side of the field to the other in order to make the tackle.

Cavalier fans can certainly get excited all over again about the prospect of Brooks coming to Virginia. The Cavalier staff could quite possibly get an even better player than they thought they would get when he signed in February 2002.

"Virginia is going to get a more aggressive and tough player," said Prunty. "Brooks is a leader now."

Ahmad will have his first try on the SAT this Saturday. He plans on meeting NCAA eligibility standards this fall and enrolling at Virginia in January of 2003. Brooks would be the projected starter at middle linebacker for the Cavaliers in 2003.

Hinton's stock rising quickly
Report by Chris Horne

Another Hargrave player who is making serious noise is safety prospect Michael Hinton. At 6-3, 200 pounds, Hinton is extremely fast for a person his size. His speed, toughness, and strength are what makes him such a great prospect.

Coach Prunty says "Hinton is being recruited by everyone. He will play safety in college, although he could play outside linebacker or rover in a system that uses that."

Hinton is looking hardest at NC State, Florida, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee, according to Rivals.com, although he is open to other schools as well.

Virginia football takes care of Duke

The Cavaliers took on the Blue Devils last Saturday, and came away with a 27-22 win. The win became UVa's fourth in a row and puts Virginia at 4-2 on the season. For post game news articles and statistics, including cumulative season statistics, please refer to Duke Game News and Notes.

Schaub on the rise

Matt Schaub put himself atop the nation's elite when he completed 27 of his 45 passes for 315 yards and a touchdown against Duke last weekend. Schaub, who was criticized openly by fans early in the season, has now accumulated 1,319 yards passing in six games on 115 completions to 168 pass attempts. He's thrown 16 touchdowns to only four interceptions. His quarterback efficiency rating is now 161.1, which ranks him fourth nationally for Division 1-A quarterbacks. Schaub will get a strong test against Clemson this weekend.

Next up? 'Klempson!'

The Cavaliers suit back up this Saturday for a meeting with the Clemson Tigers at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. This is their first contest at home since defeating Akron on September 21st. Virginia is shooting for their fifth consecutive win of the season.
