Offensive linemen commits to Hoos D.J. Bell, 6-4, 300-pound offensive guard from Camden, Delaware, announced his commitment to play football for the University of Virginia this past weekend. Bell has a three-star rating and is listed as a Top 50 player at his position by Rivals100.com. We caught up with Bell last night, and this is what he had to say about his decision to play for UVa. "[Committing to UVa] was the best choice possible for me - it felt right in my heart," Bell said. "I liked the coaches. All of them are young and they're all excited about the game. They have good ideas for the future." Bell said that early playing time at UVa was definitely a consideration. Bell added that he has good leadership ability, and his strength is his ability to turn defenders around. Big offensive linemen to visit this weekend Speaking of offensive linemen, Randy Hand, a 6-6, 300-pound offensive tackle from Fort Meyers, Florida will be taking his official visit to UVa this weekend. Hand has a four-star rating and is considered the 8th-best offensive tackle nationally by Rivals100.com. He has high interest in UVa and North Carolina. Hand enjoyed his visit to UNC the weekend of November 30th, but says that the Cavaliers are still his favorite. Many are anticipating a commitment from him this weekend. And another? Do you see a pattern? In case it isn't obvious, UVa is in desperate need of quality offensive linemen who can play right away. The Cavs will lose four offensive linemen who have started at least two years of their career. One of the players who could certainly fill the role is 6-4, 300-pound offensive guard Shadu Moore. Moore had planned to take his official visit to UVa the past couple days, but rescheduled in order to take a visit to Syracuse instead. Sources say he is planning to visit Virginia this weekend. Moore had been leaning to Boston College, but may back off with the news that head coach Tom O'Brien may be taking the Georgia Tech head-coaching job. Moore has a four-star rating and is listed as the 19th-best offensive guard in the nation by Rivals100.com. Receiver still likes the Hoos

News, Rumors and Fan Discussion | ||||||||||||||
This week ... Two football players to transfer TheSabre.com football message board was abundant with activity this week when it was announced that both tailback Arlen Harris and quarterback Bryson Spinner would be transferring out of UVa. Both are transferring for personal reasons that have not been disclosed. Two years ago, Harris started the opening game against BYU, but a cheap-shot tackle by a BYU defensive player caused Harris to miss most of the season with a knee injury. He had arthroscopic surgery last season and played valuable minutes when Antwoine Womack went down with an injury in this season's first game against Wisconsin. Harris pulled a hamstring after the first few games and saw very limited time throughout the rest of the season. Sources say that Harris will be transferring to Delaware, where he'll complete his final year of eligibility. Spinner started several games this past season, and shared time on the field with Matt Schaub. Spinner's highlights were wins over Clemson, Georgia Tech and Penn State, and he appeared to have the best shot at being the starting quarterback in 2002. Rumors were flying on the Internet (and in many private discussions) that Spinner had to move on because he was involved in the cheating scandal that surfaced in the off-season last year. The Roanoke Times reported this week that these allegations were simply not true, and quotes from Spinner's father and high school coach echoed this. It is still uncertain why Spinner, who has two years of eligibility remaining, decided to leave the program. For more details, please see Sabre Newslink for articles on the subject from around the state. Virginia defeats Auburn The Hoos took care of business on their first real road game of the season last Saturday, defeating the Auburn Tigers, 77-72. Post game information and stats. When is the next basketball game? It doesn't quite seem like basketball season, does it? This is an understandable feeling considering that the 6th ranked UVa men's basketball team has played only three games in the last three weeks. Virginia tips off again this Monday, December 17th against Charleston Southern at University Hall. Game time is 7:30 and tickets are still available through the UVa Ticket Office. To reserve your tickets, call toll free at 1-800-542-8821 or 434-924-8821. This game will not be televised. You can listen to the radio broadcast locally, or tune in to www.virginiasports.com or www.wina.com and listen over the Internet.
