Basketball Recruiting

J.R. Reynolds originally had his press conference re-scheduled for today to announce his college decision. This press conference has again been postponed and is tentatively scheduled for next week.

Reynolds is a 6-3, 185-pound swing guard from Roanoke Catholic High School in Roanoke, Virginia. He is considered one of the top guards for the 2003 recruiting class by most recruiting sources. It is rumored that Reynolds will commit to the Cavaliers' basketball program.

Football Recruiting

As mentioned in an earlier breaking news story, the Cavalier football program received a commitment from offensive lineman Brad Butler last Thursday. The news was kept secret until a Lynchburg television station reported the commitment on Monday. Butler is a senior at E.C. Glass H.S. in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Butler wasn't on most colleges' radar screen before the announcement, but is said to have a huge upside. Schools like Maryland, Duke, Wake Forest and East Carolina were showing interest, but only the Cavaliers were quick to offer a scholarship. Butler said Virginia was always at the top of his list, so when the Cavaliers made their offer, he accepted.

The upside to Butler is his height and the fact that he has very little body fat. At 265 pounds, Butler believes that he could easily play at 330 pounds. He is quick off the line and athletic, but will need to improve his strength.

His commitment brings the list to eight total for the 2002 class. Because four of Virginia's starting offensive linemen graduate this spring, his commitment helps to fill a void in the Cavaliers' program.
