Devin Smith, a 6-6 guard-forward from Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, committed to Virginia last night. Smith, a NJCAA All-American, had narrowed his choices to Kansas, Iowa and Virginia.

Smith visited Kansas two weekends ago and rumors surfaced that he had already made a commitment to them. Smith visited Iowa the early part of last weekend and showed up at Virginia last Sunday.

"He won two championships at his high school in Delaware and he helped us to the [NJCAA] Championship game," said Coffeyville Assistant Coach Matt McCarthy. "He is a winner."

Smith averaged over 18 points per game this past season and hit 85 of his 182 three-point attempts (46.7%). He also hit 89% of his free throws.

"He is a very smooth player," said coach McCarthy on Devin's game. "He is long, a very good mover, can find his way through traffic and gets himself into great position off the ball. He can do it inside and out."
