Robinson Commits to Virginia

Kwakou Robinson, a 6-4, 315-pound defensive tackle from Polytechnic Prep in Brooklyn, N.Y. has committed to the University of Virginia. Robinson is rated four stars and ranked 22 at his position nationally by Rivals.com. He is a SuperPrep All-American and is listed in Allan Wallace's Top 10 for defensive linemen.

Robinson fills an important need for the Cavaliers, who graduate all three of their starting defensive linemen from 2001. At 315 pounds and running an impressive 5.1 in the forty, Robinson will likely play valuable minutes as a true freshmen.

Robinson chose Virginia over offers from about 40 Universities, including Ohio State, Miami and Maryland. Rumors were flying last month that he had already committed to the Cavaliers, but wanted to keep his options open while waiting on a qualifying SAT score. Robinson got his qualfying score this past weekend. Many believed that he was a shoe-in for Ohio State, but Robinson was more impressed with UVa's coaching staff and its academics.

Robinson is the fourth SuperPrep All-American commitment for the Cavaliers in a 48-hour span. Out of 20 commitments thus far for Virginia, 17 of them are rated either four-star (6) or three-star (11) prospects as listed by Rivals100. There are a few more All-American prospects listing the Cavaliers in their top two. They include five star recruits Ahmad Brooks (LB), Kai Parham (LB), Michael Johnson, Jr. (RB), Marcus Vick (QB) and four star recruits Marcus Hamilton (DB), Maurice Stovall (WR), Brian Mattes (TE), Shadu Moore (OL) and Jonathan Lewis (DL).
