Virginia Football gets commitment from defensive back

In the wake of another loss, Virginia again has gained a valuable commitment from a top in-state high school football player. This time, it's 6-1, 180-pound defensive back Stefan Orange from Culpeper H.S. in Culpeper, Virginia.

Orange has moved steadily up TheSabre.com's top in-state player list, and is currently parked at #16 for Virginia recruits. He's listed as the #34 defensive back recruit in the nation, according to Rivals100. Orange had considered Virginia, Maryland and Virginia Tech. He was offered scholarships by all three. His announcement comes as a surprise to many, but not Orange.

"I feel real comfortable [at UVa]," Orange said Sunday. "I feel comfortable around the coaching staff. Through the whole recruiting process, they've been real loyal to me. I felt like they were fair in everything they told me. It was close to home. I think I made the right decision and I feel good about it."

Orange is projected at cornerback at the collegiate level, but says that he can play at several different positions to help the team. He plays cornerback, quarterback and kick returner for Culpeper H.S. Culpeper's next game is a home contest against North Stafford at 7:30pm this Friday.

Orange says his best asset is that he has a 'nose for the football' and can 'get to the football quickly.' He runs a 4.4 forty yard dash, but Orange stated that he hasn't been timed since before school started. He feels that his efforts in the weight room have helped him get faster.

Orange called Coach Bill Musgrave on Thursday to announce his decision. The news comes shortly after Virginia's fourth loss in a row. Oddly enough, Virginia received a commitment from highly-rated quarterback Anthony Martinez shortly after it lost a game to North Carolina in Raleigh just two weeks ago. This shows what a remarkable job the Virginia coaches are doing on the recruiting trail in spite of their season record thus far.

Virginia has 12 commitments total in this year's class. With many top players either leaning to Virginia, or listing UVa in their top two, the Cavaliers are primed to have one of the best recruiting classes in the program's history.
