Kickoff Time for UVa's Homecomings Game Set

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the start time for Virginia's Oct. 17 Homecomings football game against Syracuse. The game will be televised by regional sports networks and will begin at 3:30 p.m.

That's only part of the athletics weekend for Homecomings. On Friday, men's soccer hosts Pitt (8 p.m.), while the swimming and diving teams face Tennessee (3 p.m.).

A variety of other events are scheduled as well. Check out this Alumni Association page to keep up with the schedule and additions.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

With the class of 2016 full, the UVa men's basketball coaches were busy evaluating younger prospects last month. Check out the next "Recruiting Notes" feature for a rundown of where the staff has been spotted and those prospects they are keeping an eye on.

Currently, Virginia has one scholarship available for class of 2017 recruiting. Six scholarships are currently projected to be available in the class of 2018.

EDGE subscribers can read the latest from one of UVa men's basketball's class of 2016 recruits, 6'11" forward Jay Huff, in a "Recruiting Q&A" feature linked below. Here is a sample from the interview ...

The Early Signing Period isn't far away (November 11-15). Are you ready to sign a letter of intent with the Hoos?

"Oh yeah. Definitely. I was hoping there would be an Early Signing Period because I don't want to wait until after the season. I'm 100 percent. I never once thought about reneging on my commitment," Jay Huff said.

What initially drew you to UVa?

"I think a big part of it was the coaching staff. The first guy to come to recruit me was Coach Sanchez. He didn't sugarcoat anything. He didn't say, 'We need you immediately' or anything like that. He gave me things to work on, which was a lot different but honest. I really liked that. Then I talked to Coach Bennett on the phone. He's just a genuine person. First, both he and I are Christians, which is an instant connection. We are comfortable talking about our faith with each other. Also, he didn't just recruit me because I'm a basketball player. I have other interests. I thought he was different than any of the others. The main thing, really, was the coaching staff as well as Coach Curtis," Huff said.

On the football recruiting front, check out my report on Osceola (Kissimmee, FL) running back and Virginia commitment Laderrien Wilson. This EDGE update is linked below. I'll have my feature "Recruiting Week In Review" up later this week as well. The "Week In Review" is a look at how Virginia's recruits performed on the gridiron the previous week.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
