This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

The outcome of last Friday night's Virginia home game against Boise State certainly was disappointing. Good news came the very next day, however, when the Cavaliers landed a verbal commitment from Dillard (Fort Lauderdale, FL) senior linebacker Kenneth Ruff.

Ruff, a 6'1", 235-pound prospect, considered scholarship offers Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, and South Carolina, among others, before committing to the Hoos. Virginia is recruiting him as a middle linebacker, although he plays a linebacker/defensive end hybrid role for his current team.

Stay tuned this week for more on UVa’s newest commit. Also this week, I'll have a full report on another Florida product who committed to the Cavaliers earlier this month: Osceola (Kissimmee, FL) running back Laderrien Wilson.

Wilson, a 5'10", 210-pound senior, has been a tremendously productive player for head coach Doug Nichols. He played on the varsity level his freshman year and enjoyed big-time sophomore and junior seasons. Wilson has continued to produce as a senior in 2015.

"He's a different kind of back," Nichols said. "He's not a burner, but a lot of time when he breaks a run you don't see defenders catching him. He has great balance and great vision to go along with the size. [Balance and vision] are his two biggest strengths."

On the basketball recruiting front, stay tuned for a report on Cavalier commit Jay Huff, who was back in Charlottesville earlier this month for an official visit. Huff plans to sign with the Hoos in November of 2015.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
