Early ACC Wins For Fall Sports

The fall sports teams at Virginia have gotten off to good starts in September.

The women's soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the nation with a 7-0-1 record so far in 2015. The Cavaliers picked up their first ACC win on Sunday by defeating Syracuse, 5-0. The No. 6 men's soccer team also picked up its first ACC win this weekend, topping NC State on Friday 1-0. UVa is 4-0-2 (1-0-1 in the ACC) so far. The No. 4 field hockey team is undefeated with a 7-0 record after this weekend. The Cavaliers have two ACC wins on their schedule already.

Next up in ACC play is the volleyball team, which is off to an 8-3 start this season. The Hoos open league play on the road with matches at Duke and Wake Forest on Friday and Saturday. The football team closes out non-conference play this week before heading into ACC play after a bye week to open October.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

The Virginia football program now has 24 verbal commitments in the class of 2016, thanks to Laderrien Wilson, who pledged to Cavalier head coach Mike London on Sunday. Wilson, a 5’10”, 210-pound running back prospect, is a product of Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida.

Wilson chose the Hoos after making an official visit to Charlottesville the weekend UVa hosted Notre Dame. He reportedly also held scholarship offers from Florida State and Miami, among others.

Wilson has been a highly productive player for Osceola, which is undefeated through four games this season. For more on this 3-star recruit, check out the update linked below. I plan to have more on UVa’s newest pledge later in the week.

- I’ll have my weekly “Recruiting Week In Review” report, which takes a look at how UVa recruits performed on the gridiron in the previous week as well as the previous week’s recruiting related tweets and links.

- In June of 2014, Randolph-Henry (Charlotte Court House, VA) wide receiver Joseph Reed became the first class of 2016 prospect to commit to Virginia. This week I’ll have the latest on the 6’2”, 205-pound prospect, who has the physical potential to contribute very early on in his college career.

- Basketball recruiting-wise, I have spoken with 4-star point guard Ty Jerome regarding the official visit he made to Virginia the weekend of September 11-13. Stay tuned for the latest on Jerome as well as class of 2016 forward Jay Huff, who also has committed to the Hoos.
