Canaan Severin Named ACC Receiver Of The Week

The ACC announced its football players of the week on Monday and Virginia's Cannan Severin has been named the ACC Receiver of the Week.

Severin set career highs with 11 receptions for 153 yards against No. 9 Notre Dame, who scored in the last minute to avoid the upset 34-27. The senior also recorded the longest catch of his career (38 yards), and seven of his receptions resulted in a first down. Severin also drew one pass interference call against the Irish secondary.

Severin led UVa in receiving in 2014 with 42 catches for 578 yardsa and five touchdowns. He now has 64 catches for 835 yards and five touchdowns in his career.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Both UVa men's basketball and football added commitments over the weekend.

Saturday night, Coach Tony Bennett's program scored a pledge from Friends' Central (Wynnewood, PA) senior small forward DeAndre Hunter. Unless a scholarship becomes available through attrition, UVa has no more scholarships remaining in the class of 2016.

Hunter, a consensus 4-star recruit, took some time to interview with me last night. EDGE subscribers can read his comments in the article linked below. I plan to catch up with the rest of Virginia's class of 2016 - Kyle Guy, Jay Huff, and Ty Jerome - throughout this week for thoughts on Hunter's commitment and to discuss their experiences on Grounds last week. All four players were at UVa on official visits this past weekend.

On the football front, Virginia gained a pledge from Fork Union Military Academy (VA) postgraduate placekicker Holland Corbett. Corbett, a 2015 graduate of Western Albemarle (Charlottesville, VA), had originally accepted a recruited walk-on spot with the Cavaliers before enrolling at Fork Union this summer.

This week I plan to have more on Corbett as well as reaction from those recruits who were in attendance for the Virginia/Notre Dame game this past week. You can read an entire list of those prospects we confirmed to be in attendance in my "Confirmed Visitors" report linked below.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
