Virginia Basketball Updates

The Virginia basketball team won't take the floor for games again until November, but they've been in the gym already this summer in preparation for the upcoming season. VirginiaSports.com's Jeff White provided an update on the team last week. Read it here! Here's a brief excerpt:

Bodies changed over the course of the summer. Freshman Jarred Reuter, a 6-8 forward who weighed 272 pounds when he arrived in June, is now around 250. The 6-7 [Isaiah] Wilkins, who weighed about 195 when he enrolled at Virginia last summer, weighed in at 233 on Wednesday. His goal coming into the summer? "I wanted to get a lot stronger, and I wanted to gain 10, 15 pounds," Wilkins said. Consider it done. "All credit to [Mike Curtis]," Wilkins said.

The 6-8 Gill, who's listed at 230 pounds on the roster, reduced his body fat from "9-point-something" percent to around 7 percent, he said. "I feel a lot more explosive and more agile," Gill said.

There are also Virginia Sports TV videos from a couple of the practices here and here.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Stephen Moye, a 6’3”, 230-pound outside linebacker out of Parkview High School (Lilburn, GA), pledged to the Hoos this past Saturday. UVa football now has 21 verbal commitments in the class of 2016. I'll have more this week on Moye, a candidate to play the defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid position in Jon Tenuta's defense.

Few spots remain available in Virginia's 2016 Class. I'll take a look at which positions the staff may look to address as well as those top remaining targets in a "Strategy Session" later this week.

Also this week, I'll check in with some of Virginia’s other class of 2016 commits for the latest heading into the 2016 season. Stay tuned for those reports this week and in the coming weeks.

Basketball recruiting-wise, class of 2016 combo guard Kyle Guy had an outstanding spring and summer on the hardcourt. I am planning to catch up with the future Cavalier for his thoughts on his summer experiences and more.

I'll also have the latest on the basketball recruiting front, including any other class of 2016 recruiting news that may come. Virginia has one spot remaining in the class of 2016 and wing prospects DeAndre Hunter and Braxton Blackwell top the list of targets.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
