Virginia Releases 2015 Men's Soccer Schedule

From Virginia Athletics Media Relations News Release

The 2015 schedule for the Virginia men's soccer team has been released. The reigning national champions will be challenged throughout their 16-match regular season, which includes 11 home games. The stout home schedule features five contests against teams which advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2014.

"We have put together a challenging schedule once again this season," Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch said. "We think that this schedule, like in recent years, will help us to improve and prepare for tournament play in November and December. The ACC schedule will be very tough once again this year, and we also have a strong non-conference schedule."

Virginia begins the regular-season schedule with a pair of matches against 2014 NCAA Tournament qualifiers at Klockner Stadium. The Cavaliers open the regular season on Saturday, Aug. 29, against Charlotte, which was the No. 10 seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The 49ers have nine starters back from their 2014 side, which won the Conference USA championship. The Cavaliers open their road schedule on Sept. 11 at Duke in a contest that also marks the start of the eight-match ACC slate.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

The UVa football program held its annual Big Man Camp and 7-on-7 Tournament this past Saturday. In a "Sabre Scoop" article, I'll have news and notes from the event as well as visitor information from this past week. While there will be plenty of information on the football recruiting front, basketball recruiting takes the stage this week with the NBPA Top 100 camp coming to Charlottesville. The annual event begins on Wednesday and lasts through Saturday.

UVa commits Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome are expected to be in attendance. Stay tuned for coverage of the future Hoos as well as UVa targets such as DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) rising senior combo guard Markelle Fultz, class of 2017 point guard targets, Missouri class of 2017 superstar Michael Porter Jr., and much more.

Virginia is also expected to host Providence transfer Paschal Chukwu on a visit this week. The 7'2" center has reportedly seen Iona, Kansas, and Nebraska already, and Michigan State and Syracuse are in the running as well.

Chukwu will have to sit out this coming season with whatever school he chooses, but he will have three years of eligibility beginning in 2016/2017. We will update you on any other visitor news that arises this week, but for now Chukwu is the only visitor we have confirmed as of this writing.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
