Quarterback Transfer

After Greyson Lambert transferred to Georgia, Virginia's quarterback depth dwindled this offseason. The Cavaliers have addressed that issue by adding a transfer of their own. Connor Brewer Tweeted that he will join UVa's program this fall.

Brewer attended Texas as a four-star recruit out of high school in the 2012 class and redshirted. After his freshman season, however, he transferred to Arizona and sat out 2013 per transfer rules. In 2014, the redshirt sophomore only saw action in three games for limited snaps with the Wildcats. Since he graduated, Brewer decided to transfer again this offseason and had chosen Northern Arizona of the FCS division. However, when a spot opened up at Virginia, Brewer decided to give the FBS level a third try at a Power 5 conference. He is immediately eligible to compete per graduate transfer rules.

"Virginia is an excellent opportunity to continue to pursue my career and education," Brewer told ESPN.com.

Brewer Tweeted this comment as well: "I'm not one to renege on a commitment but the academic and athletic aspects of UVa were something I could not pass up."

The Cavaliers named Matt Johns their starter after spring practice. Johns started three games as a redshirt sophomore at UVa and threw for 1,109 yards with 8 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Aidan Howard received a scholarship offer from head coach Mike London this past Saturday. On Sunday, Howard, a 6'4", 185-pound wide receiver/safety out of Gateway High School (Monroeville, PA), verbally committed to the Hoos.

Howard is the 10th commitment in Virginia’s class of 2016. I'll catch up with him this week for comments on his decision and more.

Also this past Sunday, Virginia football held its first one-day camp of 2015. TheSabre.com was there for coverage, and EDGE subscribers can read news and notes - including information on newly offered rising sophomore Nana Asiedu and class of 2017 tight end target John Kirven - from the event in the latest "Sabre Scoop" linked below.

UVa will hold two more one-day camps, on June 20 and July 23. This Saturday, Virginia will hold its annual 7-on-7 Tournament and Big Man Camp. I plan to be in Charlottesville for coverage of that event as well, so stay tuned for more this weekend.

Also this week, I'll have an individual report on the aforementioned Asiedu, a 6’5”, 240-pound tight end/defensive lineman out of North Stafford (Stafford, VA).

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
