This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Last week was a successful one for the football and men’s basketball programs, which landed a total of three commitments from rising high school seniors.

Last Monday night, Tony Bennett and company received a pledge from 6’10” forward/center Jay Huff. Huff is a skilled but slender prospect who very likely will redshirt as a true freshman. East Carolina and Wofford were the only other schools that had offered Huff, who was receiving interest from Clemson, Duke, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest.

Virginia men’s basketball now boasts four commitments in the class of 2016: combo guard Kyle Guy, Huff, combo guard Ty Jerome, and forward Sacha Killeya-Jones.

Mike London and company landed two commitments last week, from tight end Andrew Trainer and offensive tackle Benjamin Knutson. Trainer is a 6’7”, 235-pound prospect out of St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School (Alexandria, VA), while Knutson, a 6’8”, 275-pound prospect, hails from Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana.

You can read all three initial reports on the above commitments - all three are free and linked below - and stay tuned for EDGE reports on all three in the coming days/weeks.

Basketball recruiting-wise, EDGE subscribers can read more on 6’10” forward/center Wenyen Gabriel in an article linked below. Gabriel, a 6’10” rising senior out of New Hampshire, recently landed a scholarship offer from the Hoos.

Also this week, stay tuned for a “Strategy Session” report on men’s basketball. The feature is an overall look at UVa men’s basketball recruiting in the class of 2016.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
