This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Sam Hauser, a 6’6”, 190-pound junior small forward out of Stevens Point (WI), is off the board after verbally committing to Marquette on Sunday. Hauser, who made an official visit to UVa the weekend prior, pledged to the Golden Eagles following an official visit to the Wisconsin school over the weekend.

You can always check out our “Scholarship Picture” page for the latest scholarship numbers and confirmed targets, but this week I will also have a “Strategy Session” focused on Virginia basketball recruiting in the class of 2016. Stay tuned for a look at those confirmed targets as well as important dates to remember in the coming months.

Football recruiting-wise, I hope to catch up this week with incoming freshman quarterback Nick Johns, who along with rising junior Matt Johns may be only one of two quarterbacks on scholarship this coming season. Johns, a product of Gonzaga College Prep (Washington, D.C.), is expected to enroll on Grounds this summer. Corwin Cutler and Greyson Lambert each indicated last week that they planned to transfer, though no official news has been released about Cutler from UVa. Lambert was granted his release and his departure announced by the program.

Also on the football recruiting front, check out my initial ranking of the Top 40 rising high school seniors in the class of 2016 that is linked below. I put out the ranking Monday, and this week I’ll have reports on those positions I consider to be strengths of the class.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball. To sign up for an EDGE subscription, please check out the Sabre EDGE Sign Up and Information Page. If you're already on board as an EDGE subscriber, click the links below to catch up on recruiting.
