This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

The UVa men's basketball program hosted 6'6", 190-pound small forward Sam Hauser on an official visit this past weekend. Virginia is the first official visit destination for the Stevens Point (WI) product, who is also considering offers from Creighton and Marquette, among others.

We'll check in on Hauser for a report on his experience in Charlottesville and where he plans to go from here in his recruitment. As of last Friday, the standout junior had yet to schedule any other official visits, but trips to Creighton and Marquette are being considered.

Football recruiting-wise, stay tuned for my initial Top 40, in which I rank the top 40 rising high school seniors in the state of Virginia. UVa currently has four in-state commitments in the class of 2016, including ...

- Cole Blackman, WR, Glen Allen (VA)
- Nick Grant, DB/WR, Courtland (Spotsylvania, VA)
- Joseph Reed, WR, Charlotte Court House (VA)
- Landan Word, LB/ATH, Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA)

This week I plan to catch up with Reed for the latest on his high school plans for next season. The 6'3", 200-pound prospect with terrific speed and athletic ability, is finishing out his junior season at Randolph-Henry High School. He has said previously, though, that he will transfer to a private school for his senior season.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball. To sign up for an EDGE subscription, please check out the Sabre EDGE Sign Up and Information Page. If you're already on board as an EDGE subscriber, click the links below to catch up on recruiting.
