Imovbioh, Suarez Leaving Women's Basketball Program

VirginiaSports.com Official News Release

Virginia women's basketball head coach Joanne Boyle announced on Monday that senior Sarah Imovbioh and sophomore Tiffany Suarez will not return to the program next season.

"I want to thank Sarah and Tiffany for their contributions to the Virginia program and wish them both luck in their future endeavors," Boyle said.

Imovbioh, who will be earning her undergraduate degree in May, will have the opportunity to turn professional or transfer to another school where she would be eligible to play one season as a graduate student. The 6-2 center started every game last season for the Cavaliers, averaging 12.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.

Suarez has requested and received her release to transfer to another institution. The 5-11 guard has appeared in 50 games in her two seasons at Virginia, making five starts, averaging 2.3 points and 0.9 rebounds.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

B.J. Stith’s departure from the Virginia men’s basketball program gives the Hoos an open scholarship for the 2015/2016 season. Whether it is a class of 2015 recruit or a transfer, Tony Bennett and company have a scholarship spot to fill if they so choose for the upcoming season. We’ll bring you the latest news as it comes.

Class of 2016 men’s basketball recruiting will be a focus this week. More specifically, The Sabre.com plans to be on hand for the Nike EYBL in Hampton, Virginia, on Saturday. UVa class of 2016 commitment Ty Jerome is expected to play. We’ll have a report on Ty as well as coverage of Cavalier targets at the event, so stay tuned.

On the football recruiting front, I plan to have my “Recruiting Q&A” with recent commit Landan Word up this week, and I’ll also have the latest “Strategy Session” catching you up on the recent news and scholarship numbers for Virginia football recruiting in the class of 2016.

Word, a 6’3”, 225-pound linebacker/athlete out of Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA), is one of five high school juniors that have committed to the Hoos in the class of 2016.

Spring football is well underway, meaning recruits are out and about attending spring practice. We’ll have any new visitor updates, and of course we’ll keep you apprised of those recruits expected to attend Virginia’s Spring Game on April 18.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
