This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

This week, I plan to have more from Colonial Forge (Stafford, VA) senior wide receiver/athlete Gary Jennings, who was the only prospect the Virginia football program hosted on an official visit this past weekend. The 6’2”, 190-pound Jennings, a 3-star prospect, is one of UVa’s top remaining targets in the class of 2015.

UVa is set to host two senior linebacker prospects - New Jersey native Jordan Fox and Florida prospect Eric Gallon - on official visits this coming weekend. Fox has narrowed his list to the Hoos and Stanford, while Gallon took an official to Middle Tennessee State and is also reportedly considering an offer from South Florida, where he took an official visit to in December.

Fox, a 6’3”, 225-pound prospect, took an official visit to Stanford this past weekend.

Virginia was dealt some bad news on Sunday, when Buford (GA) senior safety commit David Curry announced that he had de-committed from UVa and committed to Georgia Tech. Virginia’s 2015 Class now stands at 18 prospects.

As always I'll have the latest breaking football recruiting news for you, so stay tuned. And also be sure to check out my “Countdown to Signing Day” feature coming out every Friday before the Feb. 4 National Signing Day. I’ll provide the latest storylines to follow as well as where UVa’s class ranks.

Basketball-wise, TheSabre.com plans to be in attendance for the Blue Ridge (St. George, VA) versus VES (Lynchburg, VA) contest set for this Tuesday night. VES features class of 2016 forward Sacha Killeya-Jones, a Virginia commitment, while Blue Ridge boasts class of 2016 forward Mamadi Diakite, who has been offered by the Hoos.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball. To sign up for an EDGE subscription, please check out the Sabre EDGE Sign Up and Information Page. If you're already on board as an EDGE subscriber, click the links below to catch up on recruiting.

Please Welcome Sean Singletary To The Site

TheSabre.com is pleased to welcome Sean Singletary on board as a guest basketball analyst for the remainder of the season. Singletary will provide things like commentary, analysis, anecdotes from his playing days, and more. The Sabre is excited to have his insight on the Hoos and the ACC.

Singletary, who went on to play in the NBA, starred for four years at Virginia, earning All-ACC recognition of some kind in each season. He received a spot on the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2005 and was a three-time First-Team All-ACC member in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He also garnered All-American honors in 2007 (NABC third team) and 2008 (Associated Press honorable mention). He helped the Hoos share the ACC regular season title in 2007.

During his Cavalier career, Singletary became the first player in ACC history to finish with 2,000 points, 500 assists, 400 rebounds, and 200 steals. He recorded 2,079 points (fifth all-time), 587 assists (third all-time), and 200 steals (second all-time) to carve out spots all around the UVa record book. Singletary’s 222 made 3-pointers (fourth all-time) and 573 made free throws (fourth all-time) are also among the program’s all-time best.

Virginia retired Singletary’s No. 44 in 2009.

Singletary now runs “Sean Singletary Basketball” in Charlottesville and offers camps, clinics, and individual training sessions. Singletary is offering clinics this month (Jan. 24 and 25) in Charlottesville. Make sure to check out the full Sean Singletary Basketball website here for more information on those clinics and other scheduled appearances.

Stay tuned to TheSabre.com for Singletary’s contributions to the site as well: Sean Singletary archives.
