Please Welcome Sean Singletary To The Site

TheSabre.com is pleased to welcome Sean Singletary on board as a guest basketball analyst for the remainder of the season. Singletary will provide things like commentary, analysis, anecdotes from his playing days, and more. The Sabre is excited to have his insight on the Hoos and the ACC.

Singletary, who went on to play in the NBA, starred for four years at Virginia, earning All-ACC recognition of some kind in each season. He received a spot on the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2005 and was a three-time First-Team All-ACC member in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He also garnered All-American honors in 2007 (NABC third team) and 2008 (Associated Press honorable mention). He helped the Hoos share the ACC regular season title in 2007.

During his Cavalier career, Singletary became the first player in ACC history to finish with 2,000 points, 500 assists, 400 rebounds, and 200 steals. He recorded 2,079 points (fifth all-time), 587 assists (third all-time), and 200 steals (second all-time) to carve out spots all around the UVa record book. Singletary’s 222 made 3-pointers (fourth all-time) and 573 made free throws (fourth all-time) are also among the program’s all-time best.

Virginia retired Singletary’s No. 44 in 2009.

Singletary now runs “Sean Singletary Basketball” in Charlottesville and offers camps, clinics, and individual training sessions. Singletary is offering clinics this month (Jan. 17 and 18, Jan. 24 and 25) in Charlottesville. Make sure to check out the full Sean Singletary Basketball website here for more information on those clinics and other scheduled appearances.

Stay tuned to TheSabre.com for Singletary’s contributions to the site as well. Singletary's first article is scheduled to appear this week.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

National Signing Day is fast approaching in football so this week I will put out my first edition of “Countdown To Signing Day,” a look at UVa football’s top remaining targets, upcoming visits, key dates, and more. The Hoos have 19 commitments (UVa and four-star DE Rasool Clemons reportedly have gone their separate ways) heading into the final three weeks before Signing Day.

First, I’ll have the latest on one of Virginia’s top remaining targets in New Jersey Jordan Fox, a linebacker out of heralded St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, New Jersey. Fox is down to Stanford and Virginia and plans to visit both schools in the coming weekends. He has offers from both schools.

I already released my final In-State Top 40 for the class of 2015. UVa’s top in-state commitment is from Under Armour All-American linebacker Jahvoni Simmons, who helped Ocean Lakes (Va. Beach) to its first ever varsity football state championship this season. Likely free safety Juan Thornhill is Virginia’s next highest recruit in the rankings. Thornhill, who plays quarterback and free safety in high school, led Altavista to its second straight state championship in football last month.

Speaking of Simmons, he discusses his Under Armour experience and more in an EDGE update coming out later this week.

On the basketball front, I plan to have the latest on how UVa’s class of 2015 and 2016 recruits are performing on the hardcourt this season. Class of 2016 combo guard Kyle Guy traveled from his hometown of Indianapolis (IN) to South Bend to see his future school defeat Notre Dame on Saturday. I hope to get his reaction to that game this week.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
