Anderson Named ACC Co-Player of the Week From Virginia Athletics Media Relations News ReleasesVirginia junior guard Justin Anderson has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday (Dec. 8) by the ACC. Anderson, who shared this week's honor with Notre Dame's Jerian Grant, averaged 18.5 points and seven rebounds as No. 6/5 Virginia posted road wins at then-No. 21 Maryland (76-65) and VCU (74-57). Anderson tallied 16 points and six rebounds in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge win at Maryland. Anderson added a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds in the 17-point win at VCU. Anderson was 6-7 from the field, including 3-4 from 3-point range, and was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe against the Rams. Anderson sparked Virginia's second-best field goal shooting performance (68.3%) in school history at VCU. The 6-6, 228-pound Anderson has led Virginia in scoring in seven of nine games, and is averaging career highs in points (15.8), rebounds (5.8), field goal percentage (57%), 3-point percentage (58.8%) and free-throw percentage (80%). He ranks second in the ACC in 3-point percentage and eighth in scoring. |

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne Both games are intriguing. L.C. Bird is seeking its third straight state title, but it will have to take down a Tuscarora squad that has cruised through the 2014 season, winning each of its 14 games by double digits. Tuscarora’s closest game was a 21-8 win over Loudoun County. Bird features junior quarterback/athlete Jalen Elliott, who has received several FBS scholarships already including one from Virginia Tech. Numerous FBS prospects will be on display in the 6A contest. Centreville, which defeated Oscar Smith to claim the 2013 6A State Championship, features South Carolina-bound tailback A.J. Turner and Vanderbilt-bound offensive lineman Justin Skule, among others, while Ocean Lakes is led by future Virginia Cavalier Jahvoni Simmons, Arizona State-bound running back/athlete Jaason Lewis, Virginia Tech-bound defensive back Jahque Alleyne, heralded junior corner Levonta Taylor and freshman quarterback Tyler DeSue. UVa has offered Taylor and DeSue. I plan to be on hand for both state championship games and will provide game updates and recruiting updates over the weekend. I’ll also update you on how other UVa-bound prospects perform on the gridiron this week. Altavista (VA) senior athlete Juan Thornhill, a Virginia verbal, is seeking to lead the Colonels to their second straight state championship. Thornhill has also captured two basketball state titles in his decorated high school career. In addition to the typical recruiting beat, I am working on my final class of 2015 in-state rankings, which will be out around Christmas, as well as “Strategy Session” updates on football and basketball. Stay tuned for those reports in the month of December. Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
