Have You Watched Ballhawk Weekly?

This fall, TheSabre.com haslaunched a new web show "Ballhawk Weekly" with Virginia legend Ahmad Hawkins and student host Shannon Power.

"Ballhawk Weekly” features former UVa and AFL star Ahmad Hawkins as an analyst for Virginia football. Hawkins played both defensive back and receiver at UVa, leading the team in interceptions as a senior with four. He also found himself on the receiving end of one of the program’s most famous plays, the game-winning touchdown reception at Virginia Tech in 1998. The Hoos rallied for remarkable 36-32 comeback victory over the rival Hokies after trailing 29-7 at the half. Hawkins pulled in a pass from Aaron Brooks and sprinted 47 yards to the end zone to cap the biggest comeback in school history.

The Sabre TV show is hosted by Shannon Power, a third-year student at the University of Virginia. Power is a sports reporter for WUVA, the student radio station at UVa since 1947 when it was run out of the basement of Lefevre Dorm, and a member of the Hoo Crew, which won the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award in March.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

UVa football scored commitment No. 21 in the class of 2015 last week, when West Orange (Winter Garden, FL) defensive end Brandon Wilson pledged to the Hoos. Wilson went with the Cavaliers over offers from Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, among others. He gives UVa its third defensive end prospect in this class.

This week, I plan to have more with Wilson and his coach, so stay tuned for that full report.

In other football recruiting news, I published my “Sabre Scoop” focused on Virginia’s top remaining class of 2015 targets and latest recruiting news and notes. See the link below. Also this week ...

- I’ll have another edition of “Week In Review,” my weekly feature focused on UVa’s commitments and how they are faring on the gridiron. Each feature has a spotlighted player, and last week’s was Patrick Henry (Ashland, VA) defensive tackle/offensive lineman Eli Hanback, who grew up a big fan of the Hoos. He has been to many UVa sporting events but one stands out above the rest ...

“I’ve got a good one,” he said. “I go to all the sports - football, baseball, basketball. A few years ago, I went to watch the baseball team when they hosted UC-Irvine in a Super Regional. They were down 2-1 in the ninth in Game 3. They got two outs, so I thought, ‘Here we go again. Another Super Regional without a College World Series.’ We got one base hit. I thought, ‘Okay. We’re just prolonging it.’ Someone else got a hit and we had first and second. Reed Gragnani got up and walked. Chris Taylor came up. I’m pretty sure it was a tight count, but he got a hit and it was like it was in slow motion. Not only did they tie, but they won. The stadium erupted. That was my most memorable moment.”

- I plan to catch up with Cavalier commit Rasool Clemons and his coach for a full report. Clemons, a four-star recruit, is one of Virginia’s most highly rated pledges.

- Late Saturday night, I’ll post a list of those recruits we confirmed to be in attendance for the Pittsburgh game.

- As always, we’ll have any breaking football and basketball recruiting news to report.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
