ACC Honors For Frye Again

UVa Athletics News Release

Virginia placekicker Ian Frye was named ACC Specialist of the Week for games played through Sept. 20. Frye converted on all four of his field goal attempts and three PATs in the Cavaliers’ 41-33 road loss at No. 21 BYU. Frye connected on field goal attempts of 23, 41, 22, and 46 yards. He is now 10 of 11 on field goal attempts this season.

It is Frye’s second career honor. He also was named ACC Specialist of the Week a week ago after his exploits against No. 21 Louisville, including booting the game-winning field goal.

In other football news, the start time for Virginia’s Oct. 4 home football game against Pitt has been announced. The game will be televised by regional sports networks and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Woodberry Forest (VA) opened the 2014 season with a big win over Liberty Christian Academy this past weekend. Woodberry’s quarterback, Lindell Stone, is only a sophomore but already has received scholarship offers from UCLA and UVa. I caught up with Stone and will have an EDGE article on the promising signal caller out soon.

One of Stone’s teammates is junior offensive tackle Clark Yarbrough, who also has a scholarship offer from the Hoos. I hope to have an article on Clark out later this week as well. Yarbrough, who boasts double-digit offers already, is a cousin of former Cavalier offensive lineman Zac Yarbrough.

While Virginia’s staff - along with coaches all across the country - are eyeing prospects in future classes (2016, 2017 and 2018), finishing out the class of 2015 in a strong fashion is obviously a priority as well. UVa has 20 verbal commitments in 2015. This week, I’ll take a look at those remaining targets and where they stand in their recruitments.

Also this week ...

The third edition of “2014 Week In Review” will be released. In case you missed it, the “Week In Review” is a weekly look at how Virginia’s commitments are performing on the gridiron this season. The feature includes a “Player Spotlight.” Last week’s spotlight was on Ohio 4-star linebacker CJ Stalker, who revealed his plans to enroll at UVa in January of 2015.

Virginia was away this past weekend but will be home again this weekend, hosting Kent State in Scott Stadium on Saturday. We’ll have news on visitors for this game as it comes.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
