Frye, Anthony Harris Earn ACC Honors

UVa Athletics News Release

Virginia placekicker Ian Frye was named ACC Specialist of the Week and strong safety Anthony Harris was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week for games played through Sept. 13.

Frye made all three of his field goal attempts, including the game-winner, in Virginia’s win over Louisville. Frye’s game-winning kick was a 42-yarder with 3:42 to play and is the third longest game winner in UVa program history. Earlier in the game he converted field goals from 35 and 47 yards. His 47-yarder was the second longest by an ACC player this season. Frye also converted two PAT attempts.

Harris had eight tackles and one interception in Virginia’s 23-21 upset of No. 21 Louisville. His interception set up UVa’s first touchdown of the game. The UVa defense limited Louisville to just 282 yards of total offense as the Cavaliers picked up the win in their conference opener.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Stonewall Jackson (Manassas, VA) four-star defensive tackle Tim Settle and Central Catholic (Pittsburgh, PA) safety Johnny Petrishen headlined the list of uncommitted class of 2015 prospects in Scott Stadium to watch UVa defeat Louisville.

After being an early favorite, Virginia is trying to get back into serious contention for Settle, who is eyeing a Dec. 20 decision date. This weekend’s win was a step in the right direction, and if Virginia can continue to do well this season, I think there is a chance.

Petrishen, who arrived in Charlottesville on Saturday before returning home on Sunday, spoke highly of coach Mike London in an interview with The Sabre last night. Was it enough to sway the 6’2”, 195-pound safety away from Pittsburgh? We may find out soon, as Petrishen plans to visit the hometown Panthers again this weekend.

Stay tuned for a full report on Petrishen.

Woodberry Forest (VA) products Clark Yarbrough and Lindell Stone were other uncommitted prospects in attendance on Saturday. Both prospects have been offered by Virginia. Yarbrough is a class of 2016 offensive lineman, while Stone is a class of 2017 quarterback. I hope to have more on both players this week.

In terms of committed players, class of 2015 pledge Grant Polk was in Charlottesville this past weekend on an official visit. The Punta Gorda (FL) native, an offensive tackle prospect, plans to enroll at UVa in January of 2015 and actually signed financial papers with the Hoos this past weekend.

Stay tuned for a full report on Polk’s visit. EDGE subscribers can read a summary of my conversations with Polk and Petrishen on the EDGE message board right now.
