ACC Opener For Men's Soccer The men's soccer team opens ACC play this weekend when rival Virginia Tech comes to town on Friday at 8 p.m. The Cavaliers have started the season with a 2-1 record, the only blemish a double overtime loss at Tulsa.Virginia owns a 36-4-3 all-time record against Virginia Tech and has won 19 of the last 23 meetings. UVa is unbeaten in its previous eight matches against VT, with the last four going to overtime. Last season, the Hoos out-shot the Hokies 37-2 in a 1-1 tie. Friday's contest features a special ceremony that long-time Hoo fans will love. At halftime, Virginia will honor its first National Championship team, the 1989 squad, as it celebrates its 25-year reunion. The team will be honored during the UVa-Louisville football game on Saturday as well. The football (Saturday, 12:30 p.m.) and field hockey (Friday, 6 p.m.) teams also begin conference play this weekend with contests against Louisville. |

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne Killeya-Jones landed the offer while in Charlottesville on an unofficial visit. I plan to catch up with him this week for reaction, plus comments from VES head coach Curtis Staples on the standout center’s basketball abilities. On the football front, this weekend will be an important one with John Petrishen, a safety prospect out of Central Catholic (Pittsburgh, PA), expected on Grounds for a visit. The senior is also considering Pittsburgh and Wake Forest, and he hopes to pick one of the three by the end of this month. In addition to Petrishen, Cavalier class of 2015 commitments David Curry and Grant Polk are expected in Charlottesville as well. Polk, an offensive line recruit out of Florida, will be making his official visit. If the past few years hold to form, most of the committed players will take their officials in January. Polk, however, is planning on enrolling in January of 2015. Stay tuned for reports from these players and more from this weekend’s Louisville contest. I’ll have my first “Week In Review” feature, which looks at how UVa’s commitments are performing on the high school gridiron. The spotlighted recruit in this edition is the aforementioned Curry, a safety prospect out of football powerhouse Buford High School in Georgia. Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
