Moving An Ad Position

Sabre fans,

The site wanted to let you know of an upcoming change in advertising display on the site. The square ad that appears in the footer section of the site will be moved up the page and located between the body of a message board post and the string of replies/reply message box for the post. As part of this change, a 'reply' link has been added above the ad - this allows you to be taken to the reply box without scrolling down the page manually. This change had been made temporarily previously as a test, but the move will become permanent in the coming days. For an example of what this looks like, please look at this post from network partner DreamBackfield.com:

DreamBackfield post

The change is being made for two reasons.

First, some users periodically have reported the appearance of auto-play video ads on the site located in the footer ad on the page. The audio for the video begins playing when the page loads and this is a nuisance to many users. At TheSabre.com, those ads are not supposed to be appearing on the site - intrusion ads such as sound ads, pop-ups, etc. are blocked and filtered from the networks that provide the ads to the site. TheSabre.com is the only site on the network reporting this issue. Coincidentally, TheSabre.com is also the only site on the network with the square ad placed in the footer vs. in the message board posts. There appears to be a connection there and the site wants to shift the ad up the page in an effort to remove those ads from the rotation since other repeated attempts to stop the ads have not worked.

Second, TheSabre.com is your home as Virginia fans and a community that helps Wahoo fans connect from all around the country and beyond. This is the top priority for the site. That is why feedback, suggestions, changes, and improvements with the site are taken seriously and used as part of the decision-making process. The site is also a business. Moving the square ad up the page is a sound business decision for the site because it will produce more revenue in its new spot due to the quality of ads that are expected to be served (this ad quality is also why the site believes moving the ad up the page will help eliminate sound ads).

Thank you for supporting the site for nearly 20 years as the No. 1 internet destination for Hoo fans everywhere!

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Virginia football’s 12th commitment of the class of 2015 is its biggest so far. Lakota West (West Chester, OH) linebacker CJ Stalker, rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com, pledged last week, choosing the Hoos over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, and West Virginia.

Coach Mike London and company have enjoyed quite a bit of success the past three months, tallying 12 commitments in total including 10 class of 2015 recruits and two class of 2016 prospects. The potential is there to start August with a bang as well.

Pennsylvania rising senior wide receiver Freddie Simmons is expected to announce his college choice on Sunday, August 3. California, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and West Virginia are among the other offers the 6’3” prospect is considering.

On August 5, Virginia will learn the decisions of two rising senior linebackers - Kareem McDonald and Jahvoni Simmons. McDonald, a product of Wilson High School in Washington D.C., received an offer from Virginia following London’s final one-day camp of the year. Simmons, a highly regarded middle linebacker out of Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA), has been one of Virginia’s top class of 2015 targets for quite some time.

UVa has a great shot with all three players. Can the Hoos close? We’ll know for sure early next week.

This week, I hope to have a pre-decision update on Freddie Simmons as well as a follow-up with Stalker on his commitment. I also hope to reach McDonald and Jahvoni Simmons for more on their impending decisions. Camp coverage plus Stalker’s commitment pushed back completion of my initial in-state Top 40 (rising seniors only), but I will have that out this week as well.

On the basketball front, Virginia has offered a scholarship to class of 2015 power forward Jarred Reuter, a prospect out of Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.). I caught up with Brewster head coach Jason Smith for the latest, so EDGE subscribers can read that report linked below.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
