Hoos Picked Last In Coastal

From an official ACC media release

Media members at the 2014 ACC Football Kickoff in Greensboro picked their ACC favorites on Monday. The media tabbed defending National Champion Florida State to repeat as Atlantic Division champions and to defeat Miami in the ACC Championship Game.

Florida State was picked as the likely overall ACC winner on 104 of 112 ballots cast.

In the Coastal Division, Miami’s 26 first-place votes placed third, but the Hurricanes’ 614 total points led overall. Defending division champion Duke received 33 first-place votes and finished with 597 points, followed by Virginia Tech with 571 points and 23 first-place votes. North Carolina was just behind in fourth place with 570 points and 27 first-place votes, followed by Georgia Tech (322 with one first place vote), Pitt (319 with two first-place votes) and Virginia (142). The Cavaliers were the only Coastal team to receive no first-place votes. Only Wake Forest accumulated fewer total points with 136 as the last-place pick in the Atlantic Division.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Hough (Cornelius, N.C.) class of 2015 power forward Luke Maye confirmed to TheSabre.com that he has been offered by the University of Virginia. Maye, a 6’8”, 235-pound rising senior, also boasts offers from Clemson, Iowa State, Notre Dame, and Rutgers among others.

Maye took an unofficial visit to UVa last month, at which point he was told he would be evaluated further in July. Virginia has only one scholarship available in the class of 2015, and the low post is the primary focus at this point. This week I plan to catch up with Maye to get his reaction on the offer and what his plans are as far as making his college decision.

Also this week ...

  • The UVa football program is currently holding a Team Camp. On Wednesday, July 23, Coach Mike London and company will hold their final one-day camp of the year. TheSabre.com will be on hand for coverage of the event and any breaking news that may come.
  • Virginia football now has 11 commitments in the class of 2015 after Richard Burney Jr., a 6’4”, 235-pound tight end out of Hickory (Chesapeake, VA), pledged to the Hoos this past Saturday. I hope to have more on UVa’s newest commit this week.
  • Keeping with tight end recruits, New Jersey native Jake Pickard arrived in Charlottesville Monday evening for an unofficial visit to UVa. We hope to have the latest on the 6’5”, 240-pound prospect’s experience this week.
  • Colonial Forge (Stafford, VA) rising senior standout Gary Jennings has five schools on top. One of them is Virginia. I’ll have the latest with the 6’2”, 190-pound wide receiver/athlete.
  • I plan to release my Preseason In-State Top 40 for the class of 2015 this week.
