This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Last week was a busy one in the world of Virginia recruiting. On the basketball front, the NBPA Top 100 and ScoutsFocus All-American camps were in Charlottesville. The events included a number of Virginia men’s basketball targets, who you can read more about in the “Sabre Scoop” feature linked below. This feature includes reports on low post targets in the class of 2015, class of 2016 targets including newly offered Oregon point guard Payton Pritchard, top class of 2017 target Matt Coleman, and much more.

I plan to have more individual reports later this week as well, so stay tuned.

Virginia football continued its run on verbal commitments last week, securing pledges from a pair of Pennsylvania natives. First to come on board was 6’1”, 265-pound rising senior defensive tackle James Trucilla, a product of Cathedral Prep in Erie, PA.

“First off, he is a fun kid to coach,” Cathedral Prep head coach Mike Mischler told TheSabre.com last week. “He’s a great kid and a great player. He’s extremely powerful. Two months ago I posted a video of him benching 225 pounds 21 times. He’s stronger now. He is explosive. He plays with his hands. I think he is a complete guy on the defensive side of the ball.”

Last Friday, Greater Johnstown (PA) rising senior cornerback Kareem Gibson chose the Hoos over Arizona and Penn State. The 5’10”, 170-pound prospect visited UVa this spring and says he really enjoyed the one-on-one time with head coach Mike London and primary recruiter Mike Archer.

Stay tuned for more from Gibson and Trucilla this week, as well as news from this past Saturday’s one-day camp. Gibson gives the Hoos nine commitments in the class of 2015. Virginia also has two commitments in the class of 2016.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
