This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Virginia men’s basketball’s fantastic 2013/2014 season came to an end, but Cavalier fans can take a glimpse into next season by tuning into the Dick’s National High School Tournament, which begins on April 3 and lasts through April 5. The 8-team tournament includes Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA), which features UVa-bound shooting guard/small forward B.J. Stith, son of legendary Cavalier Bryant Stith.

Oak Hill takes on Northside Christian Academy (N.C.) in the opening round on Thursday at 2 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPNU. For the complete bracket and more tournament information, click here.

Stay tuned to The Sabre for more on the men’s basketball recruiting front in the coming weeks, including a “Strategy Session” detailing scholarships, needs, and those early top targets in class of 2015 and class of 2016 recruiting. I also plan to check in with New Zealand native Jack Salt, who along with Stith and Isaiah Wilkins signed with the Hoos last November.

On the football front, be sure to check out last week’s “Strategy Session” for a look at where the Virginia coaches are focusing their efforts on offense in class of 2015 recruiting. A “Strategy Session” for defense will be out this week too.

Speaking of defense, Virginia was the visit destination of New Jersey class of 2015 linebacker Jordan Fox this past Saturday. Fox, who hails from traditional prep power St. Peter’s Prep, is an outside linebacker prospect who boasts offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Georgia, Miami, Nebraska, and Rutgers. “At University of Virginia spring practice, they hitting today!!” - Fox tweeted this past Saturday.

Also stay tuned this week for an update on out-of-state linebacker target CJ Stalker, a rising senior out of Ohio. Stalker visited Virginia for the first time recently and was blown away by what he saw. The experience catapulted UVa to the top of the 6’3”, 220-pound prospect’s list, which also currently includes Cincinnati, Kentucky, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia, among others.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
