This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

University of Virginia-bound forward Isaiah Wilkins led Greater Atlanta Christian (Atlanta, GA) to a second consecutive Class AA State Championship this past Saturday. Wilkins, a 6'7", 210-pound forward, had what he called his best game on the high school level, totaling 29 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks in a 58-55 win over Calhoun.

Saturday’s victory caps off an outstanding two-year run for Wilkins and company, who experienced 61 wins to only three losses the past two years. Wilkins earned AA Player of the Year honors his junior season and continued his high level of play as a senior.

“It has been great,” Wilkins said of the past two seasons. “We have a great coaching staff and great teammates. We didn’t really lose any players from last year. This year was just another great experience with my brothers.”

For more from Wilkins, check out my EDGE article linked below.

This week I plan to catch up with another member of Virginia’s class of 2014, guard BJ Stith. While Wilkins’ high school career has come to an end, Stith and his Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) teammates will play in the Dick’s High School National Tournament, which takes place in New York City April 3-5. The Warriors enter the tournament with a 39-3 overall record.

I plan to catch up with center Jack Salt in the near future as well. Salt, a native of New Zealand, signed with the Hoos last November along with Stith and Wilkins.

Juan Thornhill, a junior, may be a Virginia football commitment but he is a solid basketball player as well. He has helped Altavista (VA) to the 1A State Championship game, which will take place this Saturday at 2 p.m. at VCU’s Siegel Center. Thornhill, a quarterback and free safety in football, is Altavista’s starting point guard. He helped the basketball team to a state title last year and the football team to a state title last fall.

Also this week, I’ll continue to follow up with those prospects that made their way to Charlottesville for Virginia football’s Junior Day on March 1. Stay tuned for the latest on the football recruiting beat.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
