This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Virginia football hosted a Junior Day on Saturday, so this week’s recruiting focus will be providing the latest on those prospects that made their way to Charlottesville for the event. Overall, the weekend went well and attracted a significant group of top Virginia class of 2015 targets, including in-state 5-star defensive tackle Tim Settle and nationally recruited defensive end/outside linebacker Ricky DeBerry Jr..

So far I have caught up with several other key class of 2015 targets, including quarterback Nick Johns and offensive linemen Austin Clark and Sage Hardin. EDGE subscribers can read our Subscriber Board for initial reports on those prospects. I'll have full reports on these recruits.

As I get in touch with more prospects I’ll be sure to post summaries and notes on the EDGE message board. If there is any breaking news to report, I’ll have that as well, so stay tuned to The Sabre for full coverage of last Saturday’s big Junior Day event.

About eight or nine prospects were on Grounds on Saturday as well to watch Virginia men’s basketball’s win over Syracuse. At least three of those prospects - freshman point guard Matt Coleman and sophomores Monte Buckingham (SG/SF) and Ty Graves (PG)- already have been offered by coach Tony Bennett.

I’ll have a full report up early this week on Graves, a standout point guard out of Page (Greensboro, N.C.). I also plan to have updates on the rest of the visitors, and I’ll provide the latest on Virginia’s class of 2014 commitments as well.

Virginia 5A South Region Championship

Hoo fans in the Portsmouth area can see the aforementioned Coleman and Buckingham square off in the 5A South Regional championship. Maury, which features Coleman, and Henrico, which features Buckingham, are scheduled to play Tuesday, March 4, at 8 p.m. at Churchland High School (Portsmouth, VA).

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball. To sign up for an EDGE subscription, please check out the Sabre EDGE Sign Up and Information Page. If you're already on board as an EDGE subscriber, click the links below to catch up on recruiting.
