UVa Women's Basketball Tops Virginia Tech

The Virginia women's basketball team (13-12, 6-6 ACC) never trailed and picked up its 16th consecutive victory against rival Virginia Tech on Sunday. The Hoos won 80-64 at John Paul Jones Arena. They have not lost to the Hokies since a 60-58 game in Charlottesville on Feb. 15, 2007.

Virginia had four players finish with double-digit points. Junior center Sarah Imovbioh scored 19 points with nine rebounds, while senior guard Ataira Franklin added 14 points with three assists, three steals, and three rebounds. Senior guard Kelsey Wolfe scored 12 points with six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore guard Faith Randolph came off the bench to score 11 points with four rebounds and an assist.

The UVa men's basketball team will try to complete the season sweep against Virginia Tech on Tuesday in Blacksburg. The game is set for a 9 p.m. start on the ACC Network and ESPN3. The Hoos have won nine straight games.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Last week, I previewed what positions the coaches may focus on in class of 2015 recruiting in a new "Strategy Session" article. EDGE Subscribers can also check out my new "Sabre Scoop" article in which I provided a look at where UVa stands with those in-state juniors the staff has offered already. Both are linked below.

The class of 2015 football recruiting beat continues this week with more focus on in-state recruiting and those prospects Virginia has on its radar. Stay tuned early this week for an update on Hopewell (VA) defensive end/outside linebacker Darrell Taylor, who boasts scholarship offers from Charlotte, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. Virginia was the first to offer Taylor, who plans to attend UVa’s Junior Day event on March 1. He was scheduled to visit Virginia Tech this past weekend, so I plan to get his thoughts on that trip and the offer from UVa. Taylor's cousin, Tabyus, signed with Virginia Tech football in the class of 2014.

In addition to in-state recruiting, I'll take a look at where UVa stands with prospects in the Maryland/DC area, which has been an important recruiting area for Mike London and company.

On the basketball recruiting front, Virginia commit Isaiah Wilkins and his Greater Atlanta Christian (Atlanta, GA) teammates take on Westminster tonight in the Region 6-AA Championship. The Spartans have yet to lose this season. EDGE Subscribers can read more on Wilkins by checking out the article I wrote last week (linked below). The 6'8" combo forward recalls watching his future team in action against Georgia Tech and more.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
