UVa Returns To Top 25

After earning a spot in the preseason polls, the Virginia men's basketball team had not reached the top 25 since losing to VCU back in November. That changed Monday. The Cavaliers re-entered the Associated Press top 25 at No. 20 on Monday after sweeping Notre Dame and Pittsburgh (then No. 18) on the road last week. UVa is also ranked in the coaches' poll at No. 21.

Virginia coach Tony Bennett said Monday that he wants his team to focus on quality not the rankings. The Hoos host Boston College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

"Quite honestly I'm not even aware of our ranking and all of that, but it's all about playing well and positioning yourself to have a chance at good things," Bennett said. "What's so satisfying to me is in a game where you play a team like Pitt and you're able to just fight and play the kind of ball that gives you a chance to be successful. That's what the guys have done the last number of games. ... I like the way they're preparing and we'll need to continue to do that."

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Wednesday is National Signing Day for Division 1 college football. Currently, 15 prospects - not including Andrew Brown and Jake Fieler, who enrolled last month - are expected to sign letters of intent with the Hoos on Wednesday, but more decisions are still to be made.

Coppell (TX) senior place-kicker/punter Adam Centers reportedly may announce his college intentions as early as Monday. Southern Miss, Virginia, and Wake Forest are the schools that have offered the Under Armour All-American, who is rated a 5-star place-kicker and a 5-star punter by Kohl's Kicking.

Linebacker Vincent Jackson Jr. and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi are expected to reveal their college choices on National Signing Day. Nnadi, a 4-star prospect out of Ocean Lakes, definitely will be a Signing Day decision as he plans on revealing his college choice at 8 a.m. at his school. At this point Virginia remains in the running for Nnadi, who is also considering Florida State, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech. He took official visits to all four schools, including a trip to Charlottesville this past weekend (Centers was there as well).

Jackson took an official visit to UVa the weekend of Jan. 24-26. He also has visited Missouri and South Florida. The Jesuit (Tampa, FL) product is in Arlington, Texas, right now preparing to play in the 19-U International Bowl that takes place on Friday, Feb. 7. (UVa commit Steven Moss is expected to play in this event as well.)

This week we will keep track of these and other possible recruits Virginia is concerned with in the final days before Signing Day. I'll also have two "Countdown To Signing Day" features up (one Monday evening, the other Tuesday evening), as well as a "Signing Day" primer, giving you all the details of what to expect on Wednesday.
