UVa Wraps Up At Tennessee Before ACC Play Opens

From VirginiaSports.com

The Virginia men's basketball team concludes non-conference play at Tennessee on Monday, Dec. 30 (TONIGHT). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

The Cavaliers are 9-3 on the season, but do not have a true road win to date. They won neutral site games against Davidson and in the Corpus Christi Challenge, but lost at Wisconsin-Green Bay.

After playing the Volunteers (7-4), UVa opens AC play on Saturday at Florida State.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

The 2013 Chesapeake Bowl, an annual event pitting top talents from the "North" (Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania) against the "South" (D.C., Maryland, Virginia), took place this past Saturday in Virginia Beach. The North squad rolled to a 59-21 win over the South, which played without UVa 5-star commits Quin Blanding and Andrew Brown and Ohio State-bound Jalyn Holmes.

In the latest "Sabre Scoop" article, I'll have the latest on one top recruit that did play for the South team, 4-star defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi of Ocean Lakes H.S. in Virginia Beach. Nnadi, a senior, revealed on Saturday night that he has scheduled an official visit to Virginia for the weekend before the Feb. 5 Signing Day.

I'll also have the latest with UVa-bound quarterback Corwin "Turtle" Cutler, who was in attendance at the Chesapeake Bowl but did not play. Cutler updates his academic status and gives his prediction on where top class of 2014 wide receiver target Jamil Kamara will end up. Kamara, who played in the Chesapeake Bowl, will announce his college choice on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The Army Bowl will be televised live beginning at 1 p.m. on NBC. Virginia fans will want to tune in to catch Kamara's decision. Fans will also want to catch the 2014 Under Armour All-American Bowl, which takes place on Thursday, Jan. 2, and will be televised live on ESPN at 4 pm. As mentioned above, prized recruits Blanding and Brown are set to play in that game.

I'll have previews of both major all-star games this week, giving you an idea of which future ACC players to keep an eye for in those events. And as always, we'll have the latest breaking news on the football recruiting front as it happens.

Also this week, I'll have an update on Virginia basketball recruit B.J. Stith and how he is adjusting to life at Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA). The 6'5" Stith, son of Virginia basketball legend Bryant Stith, is one of three recruits that signed with the Cavaliers during the Early Signing Period.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
