UVa Men's Soccer In College Cup

From VirginiaSports.com

The Virginia men's soccer team moved onto the NCAA College Cup with a 2-1 victory over Connecticut Friday evening on a wet, rainy evening at Klockner Stadium. The eighth-seeded Cavaliers (13-5-5) got goals from Ryan Zinkhan and Jordan Allen plus played some stout defense to move on to the 11th College Cup in program history.

Virginia advances to face fifth-seeded Maryland on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at PPL Park in Philadelphia. With the men joining the Cavaliers' women's team in the College Cup this year, Virginia becomes the first school since North Carolina in 2009 to put both programs in the final four.

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

Mike London and company are expecting at least three uncommitted high school seniors on Grounds for official visits this weekend, which figures to be an important one as the staff looks to close out strong in the class of 2014.

Jamil Kamara, a 4-star prospect an U.S. Army All-American, is expected to be one of the three visitors. In addition to the Hoos he is also considering Wisconsin and Pittsburgh; he visited Pitt on an official visit to this past weekend. Kamara plans to announce his college choice at the Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 4.

Darrious Carter and DaiQuan Lawrence are also expected to make officials to Virginia this weekend. Carter, currently a Temple commit, is a 6'5", 210-pound defensive end recruit out of Indiana (PA).

Lawrence is a cornerback recruit out of Western Branch in Chesapeake. He considered an offer from Virginia before verbally committing to Wake Forest in the spring. With the Demon Deacon coaching situation in flux following the resignation of head coach Jim Grobe, Lawrence has decided to explore his options.

At least one current Virginia class of 2014 commit will be on Grounds as well this weekend. 5-star defensive lineman Andrew Brown and his Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) teammates will face Centreville at 4 p.m. in the Division 6 State Championship held in Scott Stadium. Following the game, Brown is expected to make an official visit. He will enroll at UVa in January of 2014.

This week in recruiting, stay tuned for an update on Lawrence as well as a new "Strategy Session," catching you up on where we are in the class of 2014 recruiting process, updating those top targets UVa is after, and more. I also plan to have an update on Gulliver Prep (Miami, FL) athlete Cornelius Floyd, a senior who was scheduled to be in Charlottesville on an official visit this past weekend.
