SabreMail, Email Notifications, And More

TheSabre.com flipped over to a brand new website in recent weeks and this has led to a variety of important updates for the fans of the site.

TheSabre.com is now more mobile and tablet friendly thanks to a technique called Responsive Web Design. This alone is great for those fans on the go. The updates also include a newly designed home page that is a little different with the most recent articles running down the left side of the screen on the desktop display. They'll also be the first thing you see on your mobile and tablet devices. The site still uses threaded message boards for now, but the code there is much more stable and we hope to add some oft-requested features (like an edit button) to these boards in the future. TheSabre.com also has opened the comment area for articles so you can share your thoughts on an article as you read it without leaving that page. We've also improved our RSS feed and site search functionality as part of the updates.

Also, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, you'll see more references to SportsWar, our parent company. If you're a subscriber, your credit card charges will now be for "SportsWar membership", not TheSabre.com. Emails from us will be from the "SportsWar Network", not TheSabre.com. Please be aware of this, and don't reject SportsWar emails, or dispute SportsWar credit card charges.

During the new site's launch phase over the last two weeks, it tempoarily stopped a few features as well. This included:

Email Blasts including the weekly Monday SabreMail and article updates. These are returning today beginning with this edition of SabreMail. Anyone with an account on TheSabre.com is eligible to receive both SabreMail and/or other email updates. To sign up (or to unsubscribe), please log in to your account with TheSabre.com and make your desired selections. Please be aware that instead of individual article updates, you will begin to receive a daily email update about articles and other interesting information from TheSabre.com.

Hoos Next? The "Hoos Next?" calendar at the top of the message boards for in-season teams has returned as well so that you'll have a quick reference point for the next opponent and most recent result for your favorite UVa teams.

Countdown Clock. TheSabre.com also reinstalled a countdown clock for basketball season!

Thank you for your patience with this upgrade to TheSabre.com! If you have questions or comments, please let us know!

This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne

UVa football will host speedy outside linebacker Melvin Keihn on an official visit this weekend. Keihn, a product of Gilman (Baltimore, MD), is one of Virginia's top remaining targets in the class of 2014. Virginia Tech is the favorite at this point, but others - in particular Maryland and Virginia - are very much in the race. No doubt this is a big weekend for the Cavaliers' chances, though.

Attempts to reach 5-star recruit Quin Blanding and Fork Union (VA) postgraduate head coach John Shuman were unsuccessful last week, but I hope to catch up with both as part of this week's coverage.

With Blanding, Virginia's highly regarded safety recruit out of Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA), I plan to get an update on his senior season as well as his take on the Cavalier football program. I hope to catch up with Coach Shuman for an update on another Virginia recruit, quarterback Corwin "Turtle" Cutler.

Cutler signed a letter of intent with the Hoos last February. He graduated from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach (VA) but needed postgraduate work, which is why he is at Fork Union Military Academy. Cutler, who spent this past offseason rehabilitating a badly injured knee, has returned to the field for a dominant FUMA postgraduate squad.

On the basketball front, UVa awaits word from two more class of 2014 perimeter prospects in Nate Mason and Marial Shayok. Mason, a 6'0" combo guard out of Montrose Christian (Rockville, MD), took an official visit to Minnesota this past weekend. A decision is expected to come soon with Kansas State, Minnesota, and UVa being the three finalists.

Shayok, a versatile wing with good size at 6'7", took an official visit to Virginia the last weekend in August. Marquette and Providence are schools in this race. At this point, the consensus seems to be that Shayok will not end up in Charlottesville, but we'll see.

Virginia has three verbal commitments in the class of 2014. One of those commits is 6'10" New Zealand native Jack Salt, who was featured in an EDGE article out late last week (linked below).

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for EDGE subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball.
