This Week In Recruiting
By Chris Horne

Hampton (VA) wide receiver Jamall Brown and Norfolk Christian (Norfolk, VA) defensive end Courtnye Wynn represent commitments 14 and 15 in UVa's 2012 football recruiting class. By the end of this week, Virginia could potentially have 16 and 17 in the fold as well.

Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) wide receiver/safety Anthony Cooper will announce his college decision on Wednesday at a 2:00 p.m. press conference at Bayside High School. The 6'0", 180-pound prospect, no. 10 in TheSabre.com's 2012 Top 40, is choosing from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Virginia. The Hoos appear to be in good shape with Cooper, who was a first-team all-state selection at wide receiver in 2010.

Also expected to decide on Wednesday is super-sleeper offensive tackle Augie Conte. Conte, a 6'6", 270-pound rising senior out of Blessed Sacrament Huguenot (Powhatan, VA), will choose between UVa and Virginia Tech.

Conte grew up a Virginia fan but has also been impressed with Virginia Tech. He plans to visit both schools again this week before making a commitment on Wednesday.

Also this week, we'll have more on the aforementioned two recent commits. Brown, the nephew of former Cavaliers cornerback Almondo "Muffin" Curry, is a 6'1", 178-pound wide receiver prospect. Wynn, a 6'5", 245-pound defensive end, is the third prospect out of Norfolk Christian to commit to the Cavaliers in this class. Linebacker Kwontie Moore and defensive back Wil Wahee had previously committed to Mike London's program.

Chris Horne, our resident recruiting expert, provides updates throughout the week for Edge subscribers about UVa's commitments and recruiting targets in football and men's basketball. Sabre Edge recruiting updates from the past week ...

Bayside's Cooper Sets Announcement Date
Image: Anthony Cooper Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) rising senior wide receiver/safety Anthony Cooper will announce his college choice on Wednesday, July 20, at a 2:00 p.m. press conference at his high school. The 6'0", 180-pound Cooper, a first-team all-Tidewater selection at wide receiver in 2010, will decide among three finalists.

Conte To Decide Between UVa, VT
This week has been a good one for Blessed Sacrament Huguenot (Powhatan, VA) offensive tackle Augie Conte. On Tuesday he received an offer from Virginia Tech, days following an impressive performance at Tech's July 9 one-day camp. Shortly after, he learned that the University of Virginia was offering as well. In less than a week's time, the 6'6", 270-pound rising senior will have committed to one of those two schools.

2011 Expectations Hard To Peg
Image: Coach Mike London With summer rapidly turning in to fall, two of the big four professional sports leagues in the middle of lockouts, and ACC media days around two weeks away, I think it's safe to say that attention is turning to what really matters to many fans - UVa football. I'm having a hard time deciding what I really expect from this coming football season.

JHoo's Summer Reading 2011: Linebackers
Image: Coach Mike London On the one hand, it feels like all of last year's starting linebackers are back. On the other hand, it feels like we are starting from scratch with an all-new starting unit at linebacker. Which perspective is right? Both, I think. Similarly, there are a couple of perspectives one can have on the overall outlook for the unit and again, I am not sure either is wrong.
